Listening to a rip of the Archives Vol. 1 this week, and I have two questions:

1. Why was this never released on LP? Probably due to cost, huh? I still would pay a good amount for this set.

2. Where the fuck is Archives Vol. 2? We're not a full 6 1/2 years since the first set came out

Having gradually embraced the idea that Neil periodically gets motivated to make albums about weird subjects that he cares deeply about, which in turn causes him to disregard all conventional rules of tact and craftsmanship in his songwriting, I am enjoying the cantankerous fist-shaking of the "Monsanto Years" album. I get that it's preachy, craftless, too literal -- but it's pretty rocking too. I like these Promise of the Real guys a lot more than I expected to.

I love Neil but i realize with time that i dont need to listen to all of his albums.

This Bluenotes album ain't too shabby either. I didn't realize that "Fool For Your Love" (which originally appeared on "Road Rock Volume 1") originated from this period.

Odds are by the time Mirror Ball gets into an Archive Series... none of us will be alive to enjoy it, except probably Uncle Neil who will still be Rockin In the Free World

I avoided Monsanto for most of the reasons you mentioned but I recently decided to give it a try and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Found a copy of the Blu-Ray version of Archives at a garage sale for $50, talked him down to $40. It was immaculate, no creases or scratches. It's helped me get into his music again and I'm appreciating songs I thought I didn't like, changing my ratings from 2 or 3 stars in iTunes to 4 and 5 stars. Weird.

For some reason I can't access any of the BD Live stuff though, that's annoying. Can't figure out why either, unless the servers were turned off or something. From what I can tell there hasn't been a new release for that since 2009 anyway.

Volume 09: A Treasure[edit]

A Treasure documents the International Harvesters tours of 1984-1985. It was first released May 24, 2011 as an LP, with Blu-ray (and accompanying film) and CD following June 14.[11]

Volume 11: Bluenote Café[edit]

Bluenote Café is a Performance Series released November 13, 2015 that documents the 1987/88 tour behind the 1988 album This Note's for You.

Volume 12: Dreamin' Man Live '92[edit]

Volume 12 in the Performance Series, Dreamin' Man Live '92, was released on December 8, 2009 and features all ten songs from the album Harvest Moon performed live in 1992.

In May of 2014, Young stated that Volume 2 would be finished by the summer, and that the remaining volumes would be issued relatively quickly following the second.[7] Despite this, however, there is still no indication as of February 2016 that Volume 2 will be released anytime within the near future.

Yeah, it's been interesting how the live performance series has been released out of order--I sort of like it that way, as it allows us to get a glimpse of Neil at different times in his career. I own all of those on wax, and they're phenomenal.

Just weird that some are released before others. 12 came out before 9 and 11 and 10...wait, where's 10? Or 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 for that matter.

I'd love for Volume 3 to be released before Volume 2 if only for the Crazy Horse versions of the Mirror Ball songs.
