I was wondering this myself, if I put say Albert Belle in CF would that affect my teams defense negatively?

Maybe he would have more/less tantrums?

So I was just fooling around whatif, and I wasn't in the dream team settings, but I took a classic team and went to edit the lineup and it looks like you can assign any position to any player, regardless of where they really played.

It makes sense that you can do this since they take into account defense and positioning, so you could play a guy out of position but it might fuck you in the field.

I should stick Pudge (RODRIGUEZ) in left just because.

I was thinking more of taking a guy that plays 3b and 1b throughout a career and you might need him at first but want a year where he played third.

A sleeper in my draft was very good at 3 different positions. Maybe we should all vote on it? Otherwise you could draft 3 CFs and put them in left, center and right. Which is kinda of fucked up. Maybe. Maybe not?

Actually, do the outfield spots matter or is it just 3 outfielders like fantasy baseball? Chud, for example would probably want one of mannys Cleveland years where he was in RF.

You can take 3 CFs and have a great defensive outfield, but you might want to take someone who played left and right to get better bats.

True. I admit I haven't really thought about it. I figured since we were doing a 7 game series we would fill out lineups like normal and junk. I can go either way. I'm about as easy going as it gets. Unless you like the Yankees or Cardinals. Kidding.

Ok this is complicated. In the Dream Team lineup they're listed as OF, not left right and center so that works.

But I just tried searching for Victor Martinez and he was only available as a Catcher, no matter what year you took.

If you try to put Miguel Cabrera on your DreamTeam and you search for him under first basemen, you get the years 08, 09, 10, and 11.

If you search for him as a 3B you get 06, 07, 12, and 13.

So it looks like there's only one position available per player per year.

You might need to make an account to see it, but from there you can click a position and then search a player and confirm if he's available in the position you want from the year you want.

It looks like the only way you can get a guy whose primary position is DH is to put him in a utility spot. So unless you want 1998 David Ortiz he's not going to be in your starting lineup.
