Hey macphisto, not trying to make any point here, genuinely curious. If this disease were more deadly, say 25% death rate, would you be willing to wear a mask? Even if the evidence is what it is with COVID now, where some news says they don't work. I'm trying to understand if there is a line for some people or if it is genuinely about being told what to do and nothing more?

Sure, that would be cheap insurance against a significantly more deadly threat. I was on board with flattening the curve to allow hospitals to ramp up ICU capacity. I stayed home as much as possible and wore a mask in public months ago, before it was mandated anywhere...in fact, the CDC was saying it wasn't necessary. I still put on a mask where required by law or store policy and don't make a scene.

Where they started to lose me was when "flatten the curve" morphed into "cancel everything forever until there's a vaccine" and the virus became politicized. Kids need to be back in school, people need to be at work, and life needs to go on. I'm not going to live in fear.

I'm not actively trying to get it, but I'm not willing to drastically alter my lifestyle long-term over something that amounts to a slightly-more-deadly version of the flu.
