oh harmless. you and i. we had something. but now i don't know who you are anymore. these two songs are on different planets in my musical solar system (comatose is far and away superior).Ms Harmless wrote:I like MYM more than Comatose, probably (but I like the "if it's illegal to be in love" part)

Re: 12th album rumors and speculation
Though Dance Just Came on - that's awfully close to. I have loved plenty of Eddie performances since Hard Sun - but that's one that is exactly what I go to him specifically for.Jaeti wrote:I think Brother the Cloud gets there for me.stip wrote:I fucking love Mind Your Manners. It's a favorite. I agree that it's maybe the best version of a song Ed had been trying to write for a while (though SBWM may top it - they are reaching for something similar even if they're tonally different)
Here's a question. What is the last perfect Eddie vocal performance for you - one that captures 100% of what you want from him, no caveats. There are a few moments on Earthlings that come close.
Mine is probably Hard Sun.
In the Dark and Invincible are both up for me as well.

I like the weird dueling guitar lines in "Comatose"

Comatose tries to fit on Vitalogy but it’s in such a hurry it runs ahead of the train Vitalogy is riding on and then dies on the tracks out of breath

I think, collectively, the first six songs on Earthling manage to capture everything that makes Eddie's voice my favorite musical instrument ever.stip wrote:Though Dance Just Came on - that's awfully close to. MYM got to be pretty decent live, but the album version is not good. Their first singles have been very hit or miss in the PRAMG era.

MYM was a stinking turd. The opening riff with syncopated drums was the only listenable part.

I do think SBWM is better than them both, because as with any Really Good PJ, any very slight niggles I have with it are improved by great instrumentation and productionstip wrote:they are both 5 star songs for me (as is SBWM)Ms Harmless wrote:I like MYM more than Comatose, probably (but I like the "if it's illegal to be in love" part)

Enjoy these moments, friends. Tomorrow RM very well may be heavily divided and all chaos. Friendships will sour, no doubt.

Re: 12th album rumors and speculation
I love Invincible, and I think In The Dark is such a joy; so much of Earthling showcases a passionate Ed, something I didn't realise I'd missed so much at the time; it wasn't the same type of passion as the early days, the snarling rage was all but gone, but you can tell it's authentic when Ed is actually feeling something and isn't just pooing out a product, no matter what the emotion is; I have a couple of minor issues with the lyrical content of The Haves, but I feel like the tone achieved is truly sweet and romanticstip wrote:Though Dance Just Came on - that's awfully close to. Re: 12th album rumors and speculation
I've been thinking about this for a bit but can't make up my mind. It has been going to Force of Nature but then I'm not convinced about the 100% and "no caveats" part. For absolutely no caveats I might need to go back to Vitalogy. Pretty much everything following has some sort of vocal thing that dampens my enjoyment. A bit too nasal, then a bit too subdued, then a bit too struggling. Taking into account his age and defining perfect as "perfect for what he can do right now" it has to be something from the Avocado/Into The Wild/Backspacker era.stip wrote:I fucking love Mind Your Manners. I'll stay with Force Of Nature but with 90% and some caveats.
