I keep going to the fact that Ten is shiny, and so is Vs. And I love those albums. If you like a clear production, even if not a 'pop' one, BO'B can do the job. It's as much about things like guitar tone and whether the band plays well enough. Ed's vocals in MYM have me excited to see how Ed has experimented with his voice in this one.
Ten is shiny? That's probably the last word I'd use to describe that album.
Yes, it's very shiny. It's loud, and the guitar tones are aggressive. The drum sound is tight and aggressive. But all the instruments are crystal clear and have a sheen all over them. Add to that a bunch of reverb and vocal effects... Yeah, it's shiny. You just don't notice because the performance has so much balls.
I guess I have a different impression of shiny. The original Parashar Ten mix is pretty muddy - or I guess "reverby". Its a pretty difficult listen for me these days, kind of a slog actually. The BoB redux is much cleaner, clearer, etc - and, this one I'd say has a "shinier" sound to it.

All five horizons revolved around her soul as the earth to the sun.

Semantics, bro. 'Shiny' just means polished. Ten is very polished and glitzy. It's no Vitalogy / No Code, or even Binaural / Riot Act.

That part beginning 'I know some day you'll have a beautiful life...'. I bet we've all sung that about someone who tore our hearts out.

Does it say soul? I don't remember it saying soul.

I just did a Google of the lyrics... so I guess. But I don't know. What do you remember?

The weird thing is, a lot of these songs I'm totally bored with except on Ten. It's like they need that old nostalgic reverby production to become amazing to me again.

Gotcha. I'm not sure how I feel about your new avatar yet. Maybe I will just always equate you with Wayne.

I'm thinking of bringing back Wayne sometime. Something about that avatar seemed right.

Your next avatar (even if a rehash) deserves a week long reveal.

I'll see if I can get my promo team on it.

Wow. Methinks it's been even longer than I realize since I routinely listened to Pearl Jam.

Nah, they just need Boom hammering away on an ondes Martenot or glockenspiel.

I agree with you. That album needs that kind of a mix to the point i think it's part of the appeal the album had at the time. Those songs benefit greatly from the big sound the mix gives them.
The redux version's shininess is the side effect of compression more than anything else.
