This is a perfect example of the nasal thing at its best. Good call!

I love the way he sings In My Tree on that Give Way live record. Another example.

Me too.

I also like the big crashing chords in the intro and chorus too.

It's maybe the only example of late-period Pearl Jam doing one of those 'high octane rockers' that actually works.

MYM is awful.
Agreed. I think Ed sounds very powerful in Comatose. he certainly doenst in MYM

Can the mods make a thread for the new single?

I hadn't listened to the Wikipedia "leak" very much, but just did and I like where it's going (into the chorus, presumably?). Hopefully this one just needs to get past those first 15 generic-rawk seconds.

it had that terrible phone sound to it, but I did really enjoy when they gave us 15 second snippets to most of the Backspacer songs (all?)

To me comatose is head and shoulders above MYM, with SBWM in between. Actually SBWM has grown a lot on me since Gigaton came out.

Comatose had the potential to be more, however. That said, some elements in there I really enjoy. Palm muting, face ripping solo, really muscular power chord intro/outro.

guys what if this song is only 3 minutes long? that'll suck

it's got to travel somewhere for... 5 minutes at least

I'm certainly nervous that the album will be short without a lot of long songs. Earthling is 13 songs and 48 minutes. If it were 11 songs, that would be right around the 40 minute mark. Hopefully I'm right about Watt understanding how critical the "jam" aspect of this band is, and he adjusts accordingly.

yeah if it's got fewer songs because some of them are longer, we're in the money

I'm worried that they'll do something silly tomorrow like post the tracklist but not the runtime

Quality > Quantity for me no matter the track length. I just want it to be a good song and the clips are promising.

I think a 3 minute track length for that type of song will reduce the quality for me however good it otherwise is, but I hear what you're saying

Sure, but let's take midtempo burners- this band seems to have a sweetspot in the 4 to 5 min zone (I haven't done any analysis, this is just what my memory says). These songs need time to breathe. Solo. Bridge. If we're lucky, second solo, a bit more unhinged, and then LET IT PLAY OUT (I'm looking at you, BO'B).

If there's a fast little Blood type fucker of a song, then sure, 3 min is fine. But give me something else that I can really sink my teeth into as a counterbalance.

Would guess 48 min.
