Well, for example, Marlon Brando showed up to set on his first day covered in white paint. He also suggested that his character always wear a hat, and then at the end of the movie he removes his hat and it turns out he's a dolphin.

I saw that Marlon Brando Dr. M movie. And I hated it. And I already heard that story like 15 years ago. What else you got?

The original director who got fired wound up secretly being in the movie because he posed as an extra wearing a full dog mask and no one know he was there (he was not supposed to be within 40 kilometers of the production).

The Scarlet and the Black - what a fantastic movie. I love Gregory Peck so much!

I finally watched Refn's Bronson and loved it. The cinematography was great and obviously very Kubrickian. Particularly loved the shots in the mental institution. Tom Hardy, who I never really thought much of as an actor, was fucking great. So many memorable moments. So many memorable characters. So good!

I re-watched this one a couple weeks ago. I agree with you on all points other than the "so many memorable characters." Bronson is the only real stand-out on that front, as far as I can tell. No one else gets a lot of time or much to chew on. The movie kind of belongs completely to him (as well it should).

I thought the Tribe was pretty incredible. Pretty harrowing in some parts, y'all should check it out.

I really enjoyed Matt King's character (the smoking guy who gives Charlie his fighting gigs) as well as the art teacher and the warden. OK, maybe "so many" was a bit of a stretch.

My oldest daughter and I are pretty big John Green fans and I thought the movie version of The Fault in Our Stars was pretty fucking good. Unfortunately, Paper Towns is not. It was just a fairly shallow and nondescript teen movie. I think the acting is solid, but it's just hard to convey the kind of sentimentality/emotions that are present in the book. It just comes across as cheesy and kinda bland. I was surprised that my daughter had the same reaction when we started talking about it in the car after the movie. She's a pretty fucking observant 12-year-old. Not like her dad when I would walk out of some shitty horror or sci-fi movie in the 80s and think it was the greatest movie ever made.

I'm now worried about what they will do with Looking for Alaska, which is Green's best book by far. I'm fairly confident that they are gonna fuck it up.
