(so we're clear: i mean the show. i think winslet is great.)

i think Mare is emblematic of a trend in most thrillers in which anything can happen. rather than have a coherent work, anything and everything is stuffed in.

f.ex., i found the tonal asymmetry charming in the beginning of the season, but the scene at chucky cheese in which mare & co. tease her ex-husband was so deeply removed from the scenes preceding it. way too often these shifts were ingratiating and schizophrenic, instead of dynamic.

was there any direction to this show? the score was brutal. the writing was fine. kate winslet is a great actor. that's all i got. back to the movies for me for a while.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Rewatching Boardwalk Empire. The acting is phenomenal, as are the sets.

Watched the first episode of 'High on the Hog' on Netflix.

Here's the thing. Bourdain was so good at what he did that I pretty much can't watch travel/cooking shows. Because none of them can do what Bourdain did.

High on the Hog is a show Bourdain couldn't have done. And I'm here for it.

If this is where the show starts??? I'm really excited to see the rest of it.
Spoiler: show
