while it may be a somewhat generic blues riff (someone will have to confirm that) I don't mind because I don't listen to much blues. So it feels fresh to me.

I like the dirty sound on the guitars in the verses, and the thumping rhythm that's half fuck off aggressive and half lets hit the dance hall at a dive bar--like it's looking for a fight but not really. Like if Beat It was blues, but then instead of a dance off they decide to drink instead. Mike's solos are good. In general I'm a fan of the lyrics and the story--of all of his lets listen to music songs this one is my favorite lyrically. I think the chorus is catchy and fairly enjoyable (but not as good as the verses). I like he handclaps in the verses and the way the guitars almost sound like brass.

I like the song. I've never loved it, but I like it.
I think I agree with this stuff. I certainly like the dark vignette quality to the lyrics... I just. Argh. Could've been more. There will come a time when I'll stop wishing it was more and just enjoy it for what it is, I'm sure.

I really don't hear any shania twain, even after that video yesterday, i just hear a blusey rock song, i get some zz top and stuff like that, but you can pretty much always hear other influences in PJs music

yeah, its a pretty standard blues lick, but this song doesnt sound anything like shania twain outside of that first part of stones lick.

im not sure what "interesting" stuff you want done w/ this song, its a pretty basic blues rocker. those kinda songs just usually give me a boner, especially when eddie vedder is singing. if you dont like that kinda stuff i get that you wont like this song, but its a pretty good song.

1/2 Full takes the *idea* of an Americana folk-blues song and makes it interesting. For example. This song does straight-up blues, every blues cliche in the book. Which is fine, but it's not taking an idea and making it something more. I guess if you have so much love for the basic ingredients, that'll be fine.

Doesn't the fact that PJ really haven't done a song quite like this make it pretty interesting?

It's entirely possible this could have been an even better song with some different decisions. It also could have been a lot worse. But I like what we got. Maybe infallible could have been this amazing dark anthem if it pushed further in that direction. But I love what I got as is.

And at least for me, I get a lot more enjoyment out of looking for ways the songs fit together and thinking about the larger themes (but not a concept album, sorry TJ) that the album is exploring. And if I already like the songs that usually helps elevate them even further. Not always, obviously

it's really good live, but every time I hear it on Riot Act I think this is time that could be better spent listening to Red Mosquito

Not really, it makes it interesting that PJ are trying it, but it doesn't make it interesting in itself.

Red Mosquito is another one that takes Americana / Blues / folk, and actually writes a song out of it. Probably a better example actually. Rival as well. They're all comparable really.

I guess i get that, but since i don't listen to a lot of bluesy stuff otherwise, this is still really interesting

I wish they could have made a song with the verses from Red Mosquito and the chorus from 1/2 full.

I would have rather them leave this song off the album than SBM or FD. This is not good, team. Not good.
