I am conflicted. I love MMJ but I hate holiday albums.

So bizarre I am not sure. Psychedelic country Christmas album? Is Christmas allowed to have reverb?

The Christmas album isn’t a complete disaster. That’s about the best I can say.

I am conflicted for the opposite reason
*Hate is too strong. Just passive dislike.

All that good "tone" talk in the Dark Matter thread got me thinking about MMJ. How are Jim James and crew still consistently putting out amazing SOUNDING music? Sonically wonderful. Guitar tones that sound fresh yet still pure rock. Production that sounds separated.
When Bruce told Ed, in that Earthlings interview, (an album that I love but have a hard time listening to) that he loved the sound and guitar tones, I didn't buy it.

Yeah, the reissued It Still Moves (not the original) is one of my favorite sounding albums. Lots of separation despite holding onto that reverb that makes them sound like they are playing from the other end of the Lincoln Tunnel.

Breaking news from Lonn Phillips Sullivan: Jim James just announced at Park City Song Summit that My Morning Jacket recorded 15 songs with Brendan O'Brien. 10 were used, 3 bonus tracks. Jim kept calling him a coach. It's being mastered right now.

Yeah odd pairing for a band reliant on the massiveness of their outros and long bridges. BOB has no patience for that.

I'm more surprised BO'B is still around working on music. We haven't heard from him in six years!! he sold his publishing rights and then seemed to have left the business.
But maybe getting away from it helped him to get back to his old practices, cause he was such a great producer in the nineties. Im looking forward to this MMJ album, their last one was good but not great. They can do better
