It's not ridiculous at all, because it seems to be exactly what has played out repeatedly with Weinstein: People knew, people kept their mouths shut.

Don't forget, if a woman confides in you she was assaulted but doesn't want to go further because of her own trauma then it's your responsibility to call her a coward and constantly remind her that she has a moral responsibility to put her own wellness aside to seek justice.

You're right, she needs to get the fuck over it.

You guys are absurd. Sometimes being a good person means making a difficult choice, like the one between protecting your friend's feelings and protecting other women from rape. And I'm not even saying that HAS to be the path taken; just that it may hold moral merit. Your unwillingness to see that, and to equate any sort of questioning with victim blaming makes you look like one-dimensional caricatures of the liberal/feminist men you strive to be.

Your argument would hold a lot more water if we didn't live in a society that consistently punishes women who come forward about sexual assault. Creating a world that punishes them for coming forward, and then putting the moral responsibility on their shoulders to do so anyway, is absurd.

From a legal standpoint, that's not true at all. But from an ethical standpoint, does my friendship with Lupita trump my moral obligation to protect potential victims? I don't know the answer.
