What movies are you watching?

Cool. Both Divergent movies have been enjoyable so far. Maze Runner was done well and the previews at least for the second one, The Scorch Trials, looks decent.

The Hunger Games is garbage.

Man, this sucked. Katniss might be the least interesting protagonist I've ever seen a movie. Obnoxious make-up and costume design. Annoying direction and editing (handheld hasn't bothered me in a long time but this went way too far). Completely empty on a thematic level (the dystopian premise is not an effective allegory for anything, which is baffling). Josh Hutcherson is terrible. It's as grim and depressing as a holocaust movie, but without any historical or subtextual significance. It's way too long. What a worthless piece of filmmaking.

I have no idea how it wasn't rated R, though; lots of savage, bloody violence - and all directed at kids!

You probably wouldn't like either one, but The Maze Runner series and Divergent series have (so far) been way better done as movies and translations from books than the Hunger Games.

Sparked by my recent Twilight viewings, I decided to see what's going on with other YA movies, so I actually have Divergent and The Host next up. If I survive, I'll check out The Maze Runner after that.

I disagree. At least the Divergent books had what felt like some personal connections between characters. Not emotionless Katniss trying to show she "loves" a horribly acted Peeta, but is torn between him and that guy that makes it creepy by acting like her older brother-sometimes-lover played by Thor's brother.

And, no surprise, here, I'm a fan of The Hunger Games films. I've only seen the first two. And the books are definitely better but I still like the movies too. And there are things about the movies that I like more, actually.
