Yeah, that was a fine joke. And there's a bad joke in there about emails. Everything else in the part I quoted was something he could have shouted angrily at one of his rallies.

I do find the stories from Bune and McParadigm fascinating as it's part of the US I just never saw. Particularly the viewpoint of people who have moved away and have some distance before seeing what those areas are like today.
My only experience is the coastal cities (and a little bit of Texas and Vegas), but even from that perspective I find myself constantly disagreeing with Australians who try to make generalisations about America and really can't seem to understand that the whole "50 states = 50 different countries" statement has a lot of truth to it.
They're not really THAT different
One word: California. Drive from North to South and you'll see basically three different states in one.

True, and you don't even have to drive as far. I'm near Portland and just driving an hour in any direction is a
huge difference in people.
