I just listened to follow the leader on the treadmill. There is this really embarrassing rap battle song between Jonathan Davis and fred durst. The lyrics are cancel culture type stuff.

when i first watched the video i thought oh god what a douche but then i just watched it and saw a guy and his friends just having fun with their 15 minutes of fame. reading on the backstory of how the song came about convinced me even more of that

Bloody well love this track, Jer. I play it at least once every two years while on the waste with the boys.

You can say the same thing about rock, folk, country, funk, punk, hell even read aloud poetry.

Today is the 35th anniversary of the Live Aid concert.
I remember watching part of it as an almost adolescent and my dad looking on disgust, questioning why I was "watching that mess".

Anyone who is by chance following along in the Grateful Dead thread will note I am listening to a lot of live albums lately. I am cementing that I am of the mind that I prefer listening to entire shows than compilation live albums. The latter have a place in the world for me, but nothing beats the full show, warts and all, experience. Maybe it’s my years of dedication listening to full Pearl Jam shows that cemented this or the fact that I was at one time in the 90s an obsessive tape trader, but it just seems like you get more out of living vicariously through the whole experience. Sometimes the compilation is like false advertising when it doesn’t truly capture the essence of a whole show. Maybe I am just rambling in my thoughts after a nearly 4 hour live album experience...

I'm with you 100% here and this is also why Cornell's Songbook was such an absolutely horrendous misstep.

It's interesting, I think it may precisely be the exercise of listening to dozens of error-saturated Pearl Jam shows that opened my eyes to the beauty of compilations
