I don’t think Ahch to has twin suns. I think he’s seeing tatooine in his mind, home , and it’s the first place he’s going to when he passes through.

Why would the First Order choose to spend the entire movie chasing the Resistance ships at what must be ‘normal speed’, when at least ONE Star Destroyer could have jumped AHEAD of the Resistance ships and trapped them in between?

I don't know that you can use light speed with that kind of precision. you wouldn't be aiming at a stable target and you'd need to make two jumps to get ahead of them (and the ships could change course, etc).

If you can't use light speed with that kind of precision, how come the rebellion managed to do just that to the destroy the destroyer Finn was on?

because she used it to destroy the ship she was on to kill herself and wreck the first order fleet. that wasnt precision, and why would the first order sanction that kind of collateral damage when victory is inevitable

The first order could do the same with one of their thousands of cargo ships. It could even be close to empty. Just jump in and out. We saw that Finn and Rose could.

given how divisive this movie seems to be (it got great reviews and had an A cinescore, but is in the 50s on the audience RT meter) I wonder what kind of legs it will have?

I’m not sure who even uses RT. It’s totally pointless. And even if you do use it to give you an idea of a films quality it’s a flawed method Especially when it is so easily manipulated.
The critics rating and user rating are at total odds. Not unusual but it’s clearly being hit by the crazies to take it down. Some of the reviews are telling.

The RT user rating is plummeting, the IMDB rating is falling, the IMDB user reviews are overwhelmingly negative, the reddit TLJ forum is overwhelmingly negative, more negative reactions are appearing here. Still there are hints here and there that if you don't like the movie you are "crazy" or "don't get it". It's divisive, that's fine. That's part of the fun. You are not stupid if you don't like the movie.

I am saying a very vocal minority are Fucking crazy and up to the point of sending Rian Johnson death threats.

I think it’s wonderful what he’s done in this film and the after effect of blowing a hole in millions of fans demands and ownership is fucking beautiful.

the speed of light is hundreds of thousands of miles per second. no one used it to jump a few miles ahead, and if they did the ships could just turn 90 degrees and youre back where you started

I thought it was a really poor idea to have the chase the way it played out, and much worse after Finn and Rose jumped in and out of it. Knowing how few the rebellion are, and how powerful the First Order appears, it made everything seem really implausible. It's Star Wars, but this kind of movie relies even more on having an internal logic, than a regular drama. But I know many don't agree with me. The people I went to the cinema with seemed happy as long as there were big explosions and an action filled movie. Even after the movie when someone (perhaps me) said something about it, a couple of them blurted out: "but it's Star Wars", like them saying that in SW anything implausible can happen and it doesn't matter.

whatbis implausible about this? they were running out of fuel and The First Order was picking off ships. Defeat was inevitable. The Resistence had no known options and you just lost a hugely expendive dreadnaught. Why not play it conservative? It sounds like you just wanted another big space battle?

The chase was alarmingly similar to the battlestar galactica tv series a few years back

Even the far away shots of the resistance ships popping out of hyperspace were the same

what was also really nicely done about the chase was the sad sense of finality about it - unable to run, watching the ships shut down and float off to be destroyed. it wsd very lonley

plus it enabled the amazing suicidal light speed attack - maybe the coolest visual in the series after the star destroyer intro in a new hope

a thought about Leia’s spacewalk - a new and powerful force power. I wonder if that primed the audience to accept that luke could withstand the artillery on crait. the whole theater cheered at the end of it assuming he did (myself included. i thought it was too powerful but i assumed it happened)

I saw it as them showing us that, yes, Leia does have some Force ability and she knows how to use it.

the chase was good old siege warfare implemented by hux in space. why take risk and exhaust resources when you can win conservatively and minimize casualties. plenty of precedent for it in combat history.

I also thought it was clever that two desert rats found each other thru the Force on an island surrounded by water.

Ha, yeah that was pretty good. Led into a great MF/Chewie flying scene (with old music)

So was luke about to pass into the force at the end of TFA and Rey interrupted him?
Is this why he’s so cranky with her the whole time? He does say I came here to die.
Every time he wears the white robes in TLJ he’s about to do something extreme. And in the end, does, by passing into the force.

Hmm, sounds interesting. Maybe the darker outfit is for day to day, and then when he senses something, like “this could be the day” , he changes clothes.

But didn’t he say that he shut out the force and doesn’t use it anymore when Rey showed up?
