Yeah, I did the same when you mentioned that. I get that people are extra cautious when a pitcher has TJ in his background, but a drop of 0.7 MPH doesn't seem like something that should raise a lot of red flags.

Yeah, I know I used to use "Well someone was going to give him the money anyway" as justifications for trades all the time. Hint: if you find yourself thinking that way, it's probably going to be an ugly contract.

For the record, I don't feel that way about Zimmermann. The money he's getting seems reasonable.

honestly, I wouldn't feel as bad about this if it wasn't for the horrible, horrible contracts they already have on the books.

It's a perfectly reasonable contract. They're paying him to be the mediocre, back-of-the-rotation guy he was before leaving Toronto. If his gains in Pittsburgh are anywhere near sustainable, then it's an absolute bargain.

I think it boils down to two things:

1) There are a ton of Jays fans who just recently discovered the team, and most of them are hockey fans first. So they see a $12 million annual salary and compare it to the highest paid hockey players and assume you should be able to get someone way better.

2) People want Price back and are going to complain about any move that isn't a big-money deal for Price.

This is a fair assessment of people.

I like the Young signing because he represents an escape plan if Castillo and/or Bradley don't play like they did in August/September last year.
