I suppose one could argue that it was the Ukraine stuff that finally earned the impeachment. That's fair.

Defund the police, abolish prisons, etc...
But that's my point, I don't get the sense that politicians and news sources are pandering to every fantasy. I think there has been quite a lot of nuance and range to the discussion, outside of FOX, of course.

That's because they are pandering to your fantasy, so to you it seems rational. Remember the last couple years when nearly everyday there was some newly discovered incontrovertible proof of Trump colluding with Russia that will surely get him impeached?
i mean if mitch didnt block every bit of evidence from being presented and all the repugnants werent so hell bent on preserving trump at every turn then um yea

You mean the Mueller Report which found exactly what it was looking for and had to stop short of indicating the sitting president? Or do you mean his actual impeachment for the Ukraine abuse of power? Not to mention that both instances had rampant obstruction.

Those are fantasies?

No silly bois, the daily MSNBC/CNN breaking news briefs that lead you to believe he was 48 hours from being impeached for like 3 years. You were being sold a perspective then and you are now.

Yeah, but I'm referring to the years of 24/7 less-than-accurate news reporting on the topic. This was done for profit to get your eyes on Ads on MSNBC and the like. Same with Fox News, if you are a Trump apologist. If you don't think that isnt happening again right now... I don't know what to tell you.

I know bro. I have been, and still am, referring to the time between the first Steele Dossier leaks and release of the Mueller report when the media was nothing but 24/7 rumors powering the fantasy that he was minutes from impeachment because of their 'latest bombshell'. We were talking about media fueled fantasies. Not the outcome, but what happened during.

Oooooh. Okay, I see now. This makes way more sense. Also, what media where you most consuming during that period?

But it's not a fantasy to report that a good amount of the dossier was true and led to a Mueller Report that found collusion. The fact that Mueller and Rosenstein were handcuffed by Barr (unlike Sessions) does not make it less true/real. The fact that the White House's obstruction in this instance wasn't pursued for impeachment does not turn the facts of the reporting into fantasy. If we want to nit pick about sensationalism and speculations beyond the facts, fine, but the reality was and is that a good amount of the dossier was true and led to a Mueller Report that found collusion.

What we were talking about is the media fueling fantasies. Because we later learned some of it was true does take away from that. Back on topic though, I think the Camden, NJ 'abolished it's police department and things got better for the black community there' is a good example of this. They didn't abolish it. This is what happened:
Camden faced a crisis beginning in 2010, when the state slashed aid funding as part of spending cuts that Chris Christie, then the governor, imposed in the aftermath of the financial crisis.

Roughly half of Camden's 360 police officers were laid off. Arrests plummeted. Violent crime spiked.

In 2012, Camden recorded 67 homicides and 172 shooting victims. It was ranked the most dangerous city in America, with a murder rate more than 18 times the national average, according to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Program.

With the city in dire straits, Christie and state Democratic lawmakers pushed to regionalize its police force. Politicians in Camden, including Dana Redd, then the mayor, lent their support to breaking up the city's all-union police department and replacing it with a larger but lower-paid force.

Despite stiff pressure from the union and an outspoken group of residents, the Camden Police Department was formally disbanded in 2013.
But that doesnt sell ads to the millions of brand new antiracists, so the headlines read 'abolished' and 'defunded', and most dont mention black community activists sued to stop it.

And that's exactly why -- as many of us have been saying for all along -- it's useful to understand what "defund" and "abolish" to those calling for it.

That happened in Camden (and similar) is what we're saying. Twisting that so that folks can get mad at the media (and more importantly and far more dangerously at protesters) doesn't change that regardless of how many ads it sells. And it distracts people from the message.
