Well yeah, that holds water too. It depends on how you look at it. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

I find his current writing to be equally as vapid/painful as his early writing. But maybe I'm just thinking too much.

It's also frustrating that he's (IMO) the least talented songwriter in Pearl Jam but gets the lion's share of the attention.

Dude is 56 years old, and just put out a really good record with the band.

If you’re happily married with a beautiful family and all’s going well and a career you can tap in and out of at need, is the art from involved any less valid?

It is as valid. It just might not speak to you but I’d personally hate my favourite songwriters or creators to be stuck on one setting all the time. Particularly not the one that brought them to my attention and made me admire them.

The problem here seems to be at the customers/consumers end, no?

That having been said....pitching a have / have nots idea shouldn’t have even made it past demo. Never mind the album

Maybe somebody convinced him he should do a solo album because he had all this leftover stuff from Gigaton sessions that didn't really work for PJ.

Im with Jorge on this. As someone who really really likes future days the instincts (or perhaps the execution) just arent here. The Have/Have not juxtaposition isnt as clever as it thinks he is, and needs to be handled delicately when a happy and successful millionaire is using it.

I am with McP though - if this is where he is right now and this is the music he wants to make more power to him. Im sure some of it will connect. I like your Just Breathes and Future Days. Just not this. And these solo excercises in soft rock. celebrating his good fortune make more sense here than on a pearl jam record.

Flag Day and Gigaton are both so different I am glad he is able to compartmentalize his approaches and tailor his writing for the atmosphere he is going for
