there’s a reason that assault and battery are against the law and that you can be sued for those offenses in a civil court. there are no “it depends on whether the offender finds the speech offensive” or “he only grazed his cheek” (which creates a terrible slippery slope) exceptions.
I’m guessing most of this is motivated by you having a partner that also has alopecia, and that you (understandably) found Chris Rock’s joke offensive. But that doesn’t mean you can just batter someone for it. This isn’t the Wild West of justice.
