Who said anything about resignation? I'm just saying it seems like you're making light of his actions because you like him as a senator. You can like him as a senator without doing that.

How unbelievably fucking shitty.tragabigzanda wrote:At face value I agree 100%, but it's tough for me to take this one at face value. Exactly. Well said.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Why on earth should the takeaway have anything to do with women doing anything? The problem here is men. Most of these stories are about women who are being harassed in the workplace. What the fuck are they supposed to do? This "be safe" stuff is such a weird and deflective point to make. The onus isn't on women. Men need to be better.

You can reject whatever you want. I never called you a shitty person. But that was a shitty post. And not for the "reason" or rather the "justification" that you posted.tragabigzanda wrote:I reject the notion that I'm a shitty person because I think the woman's own version of events couple with photos of her with Trump suggests that perhaps Al Franken is not the monster that the press is making him out to be.durdencommatyler wrote:How unbelievably fucking shitty.tragabigzanda wrote:At face value I agree 100%, but it's tough for me to take this one at face value. the one about the woman from Girls was that she was 17 and got drunk and went to the guy’s apartmentdurdencommatyler wrote:Exactly. the answer can also be that you should use more discretion in making choices like that
she obv didnt deserve what happened
but if people are holding their breath for the liberal utopia where underage women can get sloshed and go back to a man’s apartment and never have to worry about their personal safety then they are going to be disappointed
no matter how much twitter shaming occurs
i am all for liberal social values
but people have to be pragmatic as well
millenials won’t crack the code about a thousand plus years of human nature
use some god damn common sense too every once in a while too
that was the point
obv workplace harassment is a completely different scenario

Re: Bill Cosby's Pudding Pop & Other Sexual Assault Stuff
But...she was drunk. Being drunk tends to mess up people's decision-making skills. She was also 17. Teenagers aren't known for making the best decisions. How is any of this her responsibility, again? How about, you know, guys making better decisions? Like not raping drunk 17-year-olds?96583UP wrote:the one about the woman from Girls was that she was 17 and got drunk and went to the guy’s apartmentdurdencommatyler wrote:Exactly. I stopped reading because this is clearly, absolutely, not true. Your views on this particular issue are about as far away from each other as you can get.tragabigzanda wrote:In all honesty Joey, your reaction is upsetting to me because I believe we're on the same side:

A torrent of revelations come out about powerful men being absolutely disgusting, and that seems like the right time to talk about women being more responsible about the situations they put themselves into? That doesn't seem like totally missing the point to you?BurtReynolds wrote:When is the right time?LoathedVermin72 wrote:Seems like a weird time to bring that up but okay

I think the focus is rightly on men because a gigantic amount of men are pigs who will hurt you but I can see how that naturally also leads into discussing how, regardless of how much education and focus on these issues occurs, a significant proportion of the pig men will never change and it's important to take steps to protect yourself.

But when is the right time? When allegations aren't being brought up? When is that? Is using specific examples somehow wrong?LoathedVermin72 wrote:A torrent of revelations come out about powerful men being absolutely disgusting, and that seems like the right time to talk about women being more responsible about the situations they put themselves into? I think one can bring it up without missing the point about the other, and I don't think it somehow dilutes the message.
Then again I don't think this kind of education is really necessary. Most women know this. But then again again, I don't think educating men that rape is bad is necessary either. Men do this because they can get away with it, not because they don't think it's wrong.
