Yeah, didn’t grab me immediately, but I’m invested enough to bookmark for the next single.

I mean, it's no Dondante or Mahgeetah but it's of a piece with the rest of their work.

It’s not wildly different from previous stuff, but that didn’t sound very similar to the last few records, to me. I didn’t care for it, really. And I absolutely adored their last album.

Wait. Is this for a new album or is it just a single they are dropping because of the election?

I don't think it's clear. It was produced by BOB which they are using for over new album.
Could be a song that didn't make the cut it could be on it.

So this is out today and I am very excited to listen. In 2019, I was lucky enough to get in to see them perform the 20th Anniversary show of The Tennessee Fire. Curious how this much earlier set went. The show I saw I would count as one of the best shows I ever attended.

This is a good performance, but the August 2019 performance of the album is a bit better. They Ran and The Dark here are really awesome, but they did so much more with Old Sept Blues and The War Begun. In any event, there’s no losing with featuring this album. I have yet to get to the additional songs that were played that represented that era (b-sides and covers). That’s next.

Jim James: I want this record to sound like Vs.!
Brendan O’Brien: Best I can do is Lightning Bolt.

They're from Shelbyville. Closest tunnel we got is on I-64 in Louisville to cut under the park.
Anyway, that Aren't We One song hits me in a way that a lot of recent music that aims for social commentary/rallying cry status (River Cross, a song I loathe, comes to mind) -- the artists try to go universal instead of going the more interesting and, frankly, fruitful route of going so particular as to become universal. It turns out bland at best. At worst it comes across like the white people in Get Out.

They recorded that album I believe in a grain silo (I am sure I am spelling that wrong). Same with the album before it if I remember correctly. Done that way to get the natural reverb on the vocals.
