lol yeah but it's the price i pay for not inadvertently mistaking middle-of-the-road dross for the pinnacle of recorded human soundgiven2trade wrote:lol pretentious are we?Kevin Davis wrote:What does one's lifelong experience with music look like for one to arrive at the conclusion that any music Ryan Adams has ever made could possibly be in contention for the greatest anything ever? good, good.Kevin Davis wrote:I'm only talking about his albums, VG. He definitely has the best ever face.
I apologize for coming across as a jerk -- especially to 'bain, who was just trying to comment on an album he really likes, and maybe is his own all-time personal favorite. But my feelings about Ryan Adams's music are in no way tied to the recent allegations against him. Here's a post I made on this exact topic on page 3 of this thread, over six years ago:verb_to_trust wrote:Adams is obviously a monster. Something most people have known for years outside of the pedo stuff. It's really been irritating listening to people trying to slag on his music after this story broke though. The music being so fucking good is part of what enabled his ability to control and manipulate in the first place.
I understand that his music means a lot to a lot of people. I'm not one of them, so I'll stop coming around this thread just to badmouth him.Kevin Davis wrote:Anyway, none of Ryan Adams's stuff means all that much to me. I lost track of him after the 2005 trilogy and don't really revisit any of his records all that often. I like four or five songs on "Cold Roses" ("Magnolia Mountain" being one) but I think the notion that it's some kind of canonical record is completely cracked. At best, it's a solid career album from a highly prolific, largely derivative artist. Best album of the last 15 years? Nowhere near innovative enough for that.
