well, the home's not going to be affected by the recession as much as your ability to pay for it will be. sure, the value may fall, but if you plan on staying there a while and can afford the mortgage and property taxes, then i wouldn't consider any recession.
on the other hand, if this purchase is just temporary (meaning, 5 years or less), and the recession will take a bite out of the market and increase housing stock (and affect your income), then perhaps you can hold off a bit. all things being equal though, any recession more than likely won't be anywhere near what we went through in '07-'08 simply because we don't have nearly as big of a bubble as we did back then.

It also seems to give some credence to the argument that the Fed doesn't really set interest rates as much as it follows whatever the market is doing. This is a demand-side collapse in the interest rate.

well, I WAS going to stop contributing to my kids' 529's for the fear of over-funding. i can't say i'm certain i'll do that anytime soon now.
