They were dipping their toes into nu metal on that one. Some good songs, lots of crap.

You'd need a whole lot of swagger to make a tuneless sludgefest like No Way Out into something other than a nu metal song.

I always liked the Heaven & Hot Rods riff.

It sounds like you're just using "nu metal" as a condescending term for heavy rock music that you don't like, which is fine. But musically, the common threads between the styles of music are too vague to be meaningful, i.e. "heavy riffs," "sludge," etc. -- hardly things first pioneered by the nu metal movement, in fact if anything these are stylistic elements that nu metal artists likely appropriated from bands like AIC and Soundgarden before piling their own layers of drama on top. None of these "nu metal-specific" elements seem particularly prevalent on any STP recording I can think of.

Because you don't like getting blown out of the water by someone with more nuanced thoughts?

Coma was the only song that when I first heard it I thought it was kinda Nu-Metally.

Ha I was actually thinking Regeneration, but fuck it I dig that song.

The vocal track for Interstate Love Song is terrific, truly a song that does not age whatsoever. The video from 2008 is great, too. Reminds me of when I saw them at Merriweather in 2009, my first time seeing the band. All were in top form, especially Weiland--I was floored when they played Down, he owned the stage that night. It was then that my hope was restored, thinking that he had finally found his way back. It wasn't until a 2011-ish show when I saw him pretty fucked up during a set in DC. I mean we all know how it turns out but it was great to see them together again for a short stretch blasting out nearly flawless shows (circa 2008-2009, before S/T was released).

Been dialing back to a lot of STP lately, had Trippin on repeat last week in the car....that solo is the very definition of 'blistering'

STP were awesome except for that whack ass reunion album they put out in 2010, that shit sucked, but the old stuff is still great.

This reminder about the realities of modern recording has kicked off my week in depressing fashion. I hate music.
