I like this record quite a bit; it takes some of the things I liked about the solo records and adds some actual weight and heft to them. Quiet Amplifier is the closest this band has ever sounded to the first Loose Fur record, and that's one of my favorite things Tweedy's done. And I love what the drums are doing on this record; it's the sound that probably differentiates this the most from the other albums they've done.

Up in the early morning again and giving this another listen. I’m starting to have a hard time understanding how this record could unsee Helen*
*Surreal way to autocorrect “underwhelm” and in fitting with these 5:00am vibes. Leaving it in.

Also, I enjoy this album art a lot. Like a Rothko painting, but devoid of Rothko’s colors. Or like the dim circle of light my reading lamp makes on a wall in a dark room. A little like what Tweedy sounds like on these songs. There really is something more to these simple arrangements. Something meditative and maybe a little dark. Just listen.

Describing something as Rothko without the colors is the most Washing Machine thing of all time.

NoFap has really trained me well to resist temptations in my life. I will make it to Wednesday no problem.

Why do the drums sound like Glenn is flopping his dong on empty rubbermaid containers?

On the plus side, my record came with an Ode to Joy pencil.

Honey, no train's gonna come
I have waited my whole life
I've tried, in my way, to love everyone

This album will forever be connected to my first week as a father. Every night at approx 4:00am I’ve gotten up with my son and listened to this while calming him down. It’s given me a unique perspective on the feel of these songs. Sun not quite up yet, most of the neighborhood sleeping away, train whistle blowing in the distance. It’s the perfect album for this special time. There’s no way I’ll ever be able to objectively assess this one.

These feelings/memories get tied to lesser welcome songs too.
