I think I'm already over this album.
And this makes me sad.

I've stopped playing it every day but I'm not over it more than I am any other pearl jam album. It just means that I no longer feel like listening to it everyday

Yup, it's gone in my 'like, but not everyday' pile.

LB is the only album I've listened to since Oct 12th. Closing in on 4 weeks straight. Not sure I can say I listen to it every day but it's pretty close.

I'm pretty sure I was equally obsessed with S/T when it first came out... but for somewhat different reasons.
Part of the reason for my constant repeated listens to S/T was that I was trying to convince myself that the 2nd half of the album didn't just fall off into oblivion. I loved the first 8 songs so much that I just kept listening to it, hoping that Gone, Wasted Reprise, Come Back and Inside Job would eventually just "click", so I could declare it a great album. With LB, the "do I like every song?" question was answered right up front, with only about 3 or so listens into it. Since then, it's been "how much do I like this? Is it great, or just really good?" And that's been enough to keep me going back to it. Nothing else really intrigues me at this point, and I'm still not ready to give Arcade Fire a listen until I've completely exhausted my current satisfaction with LB.

It could be just me, but I'm not sure that's the healthiest way to ingest music. No matter how good and album, I'm always mixing it with other music, it keeps it fresh and keeps me honest as to whether I really like something or not. Right now, I'm mixing in my Lightning Bolt listening in with the new Arctic Monkeys and new QOTSA. It's holding it's own amongst those two, so that means that it's a pretty strong record to me.
Also, not wanting to listen to it on some days doesn't mean to me that I'm not feeling it. I can't force things. The new QOTSA, I initially wasn't feeling and I could find the right setting for me to really like it in. So I just kept the songs into my ipod shuffle and very naturally certain songs I wanted to go back to and reevaluate. Now, it's becoming something I like when working out and exercising. Arctic Monkeys' AM is the funky nighttime sexy jam, so it fits those moments. Lightning Bolt fits all my time in the car. When I'm at work or not listening to music in the car, LB doesn't come on. I'd rather not force it.

Of all the good things I've said about these songs, I've tried to avoid saying "I really like this album" as a whole. Reason being, I don't think I'm going to know how much I really care about it until I haven't heard it for at least 6 weeks, or even six months, and come back to it. If the reaction is consistently good after a short time spent away from it, it becomes part of my PJ 'canon'. It stands a good chance but we'll see. I do feel as if it's yet another album that starts very well, carries on very nicely, until the last third is let down quite a bit by two songs (LTRP and FD). But I don't hate those two songs enough to have to skip them, so all in all, the album stands a good chance, unless, when I come back to those two songs after more time, I "remember" that I hated them.

I haven't heard the sirens in over a week.
I've decided to hold off on listens until my west coast dates get closer.
I think it's the best decision for me.
