The new season is not far off past seasons in time, and longer than the OT or Godfather 1 and 2 combined.

Episode 802: 60 minutes
Episode 803: 80 minutes
Episode 804: 80 minutes
Episode 805: 80 minutes
Episode 806: 80 minutes

I know. I'm exaggerating because I'm still bitter that they divided the final season into two seasons. And then made us wait an extra long time for "season 8."

My point still stands, though. I don't see the point in doing #6 at this point. They should have done it in S3 or 4 if they were going to do it.

because there already are enough lose ends. based on quickly they went through plots and timelines last season, the last thing that this needs is to shoe horn something like that in among 6 episodes.

If they use the time right, there is plenty of time for anything. 7 hours and 20 minutes. Longer than most movie trilogies.

But there are so many other things that would require reworking to make it happen. And is that element a vital part of the endgame?

Just leave it alone.

Nope. That's stupid. Too much time has passed. You'd have to go back and tell the story of how it happened all those years ago. It just doesn't make any sense.

This piece lays out a nice summary of what we know about Meera and Jojen's father, but, honestly, I wonder if we'll ever see him on the show. Bran and Sam have laid out the facts of Jon's parentage and lineage as best they can, and while, sure, Howland could confirm it on another level, why would he need to? Would the people that would need convincing in order to recognize Jon as royalty--the leaders and lords of houses outside of the North--be likely to believe a frogeater who hid in the swamps during the War of the Five Kings? Or, to put it another way: would they have any reason to put more stock in his words than the words of an oath-breaking man of the Night's Watch (Sam the Pussy Slayer) and a mushroom-tripping cripple? If he does appear, I don't think he's going to serve as something like a grand revelation that allows Jon to gain legitimacy, but as something smaller but still important--a connection to the Ned/Robert generation that gets thinner and thinner every day.

Lots of options. I'm sure they will deliver, but hopefully they make some interesting choices, while staying true to whatever vision they have received from Martin. The books are clearly not up to date with the series now, and won't be by the time the series ends. But one last nod at the books wouldn't be a bad thing.
