I'm listening for the first time since the free stream with earphones and one thing is glaring at me: it really burns through the first 3 songs. I don't feel like the album finds a proper pace until Pendulum. I mean it damn near sounds sped up during My Fathers Son. I hadn't felt this way until tonight but now it's bothering me.
A month ago I was really digging the first half of the album, now I'm starting to fee a shift towards the back half. Swallowed Whole probably gets me the most excited, although I wish Ed would have came up with something other than repeating the last word each time.
I think LTRP is a bit underrated, maybe because of the corny name. I never skip Sleeping by Myself or Yellow Moon, just gorgeous songs. I prefer to end the album after YM.

Pushing the low cut filter to the point of making him sound thin and shrill isn't doing Ed any favours.

well the co-writing credits are on many people's favorite songs, and the clever guitar is no small thing, but yeah, stone is pretty far down my lightning bolt hero list too.

I think what I meant to say was it sounds like they are rushing through the song, which I suppose is somewhat stupid to say since I'm listening to the studio version and presumably that means the song is what they wanted it to be. I've listened in my car mostly and even since last night and it's not nearly as noticeable. Maybe because there is more space for the sound to fill? With every PJ album (for sure for Riot Act and before) I always enjoy their music much more with headphones so I can hear all the subtle sounds and details sprinkled throughout the songs, but I actually felt the headphones did LB a disservice. It's probably just me.

Ed sounds great on the album, but he sounds bad on this tour, especially on Sirens.

While I enjoy this album, I think what bothers me the most is that Pearl Jam did not create an album that at least rivals or comes close to its "prime" recording days.
I'm still holding out hope that they have another great album in them (e.g. 'Collapse into Now' from R.E.M. comes to mind).

Oh I certainly think this is every bit as good as collapse into now. Probably better.
This is not going to rival their best, but if they spend the rest of their career making albums this good i'll be thrilled.

i thought he was sounding better then he had in quite some time live, but aside from the audience recording from charlotte, i havent heard any boots yet, just the shows i was at

I haven't heard any boots yet. But, he sounded great live. Except for a few recommended standout shows, I've pretty much stayed away from post 2006 boots.

Man, I love Collapse Into Now. I listened to it more in the first week than I have to LB in the first month. I was actually playing Collapse Into Now a few weeks ago and I really love how well it's holding up. If at any point I find myself liking LB as much as Collapse Into Now, I will be genuinely thrilled.
