Rian came in and was like, yeah, if you don't have specific plans for this shit, I'm just gonna get rid of it all and here you go.

This is coming from a couple different sources I know who work in the industry. It was also reinforced by the ForceCenter podcast. Ken (who works for Collider) said he'd heard rumblings to the that affect. Interesting. I wonder what that means for JJ coming back. If it's even true, which it may very well not be.

I wonder if JJ takes what he's been given and runs with it, or if he tries to "undo" some of it. Be fun to speculate about all of this until 9.

I’m gonan say bullshit. JJ has already presented his idea to bob iger few days back. Plus remembering Rian was told here’s where we need to end up. Do what you want to get us there.

There’s definitely at least an outline.

You know this yourself. Look at all the tie ins and links throughout all the canon books and comics etc.

All of the tie-ins have nothing to do with what I'm talking about. JJ presenting an outline doesn't contradict anything I've said here. And I don't remember Rian being told "here's where we need to end up." At all. Do you have a source for that?

Like I said, I'm not saying this is true. Just something things I've heard. Rumors only.

It doesn’t mean anything though. Every story is made up at some point. I’d say the only thing that’s thrown the plan off the rails is carries death. That’s almost definitely caused a rethink. Wish I did have that quote from Rian it was way way back in production

One thing I am worried about is can JJ make this feel like a trilogy. Right now it doesn’t at all. The first two seem totally disjointed in every meaningful way. Especially since Rian just set fire to all the important stuff that came before. Will he try bring it back to TFAs style and energy or try blend the two?

Seems like Aabrams came back into the fold because Rian cleaned the slate for episode 9. Ton of room to do a lot of cool shit with the story now. Even push episode 9 way into the future. Pretty liberating.
Spoiler: show
and the overall arc of the skywalker blood line ending by a nobody from a desert fringe planet is pretty damn awesome.

I wonder... since Star Wars likes to try to redeem it's villains (redeem them or just fucking kill them) if we'll see Rey make every effort to redeem Kylo Ren/Supreme Leader Ren in 9. And if she does, I think it would be dramatically and emotionally and thematically satisfying to see Ren resist to the end. Let Driver act the shit out of resisting his redemption. Have Rey give him every opportunity but ultimately he chooses not to be redeemed and he dies.

His tragic flaw would be his need to be dark. He is his own end. That could be fun.

By the way, how fucking great is Driver in this movie? He's the MVP. Absolutely. I though many of the performances were strong but his was the stand out.

Totally agree.

I remember saying he needed to remain the villain and not be redeemed and everyone was telling him that was too predictable, and that he needed to turn to the light side to show complexity and all the character development that comes with something like that. Ironically though Driver remaining the villain seems more unpredictable and more complex.

If you had something similar for Anakin in the prequels, it might have made the PT more compelling. I agree that Kylo's story so far has been pretty good. And Adam Driver has nailed it.

Plus have Episode 1 have an older Anakin. :) Child actors in SW just kill any momentum.

It'll also be interesting to see what the First Order looks like with Ren at the helm. What kind of leader will he be? Will he care about taking over the galaxy? Will he focus on Rey? Super excited to see what happens.

Yep, just so much to work with. Same with the resistance. How will it look? Changing of the guard on both sides.

I hate that they're gonna kill Leia. This would have been so much cooler as Leia v Ben. *sigh*

I would say that this exact scene is a competitor for "better than the climax of TPM" in fact. They're at least on the same level for me.
I was disappointed the red banner just kinda burned away into nothing, leaving a bland space backdrop. I thought we were gonna get this cool, stylized scene in front of massive flames. But nope. Missed opportunity for style. This whole movie was badly lacking in visual skill.

Crazy talk. The red in the throne was was awesome.

Also when he makes her look into the screen- the total callback to the tv viewscreen thingy in wizard of Oz was awesome.

It even had that watery effect going on around the edges.

Grown Man Doesn’t Like Laser Sword Movie

A CONDENSED ball of rage known locally as 42-year-old Martin Hanley has confessed to everyone following his social media channels that he did not care one bit for a movie released recently centering around laser swords.

Hanley, taking to Facebook at least 73 times over the course of the weekend, was quick to inform everyone that the new laser sword movie was nothing like the laser sword movies he enjoyed as a child and that having to sit through the laser movie three times in the last few days ranks as the worst moment in his or anyone else’s life.

“I can’t fucking believe it, that was the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” Hanley explained, while pointing out that other laser movies he watched as a child were just infinitely better and providing a detailed 80 page essay on why this is a scientifically verifiable fact.

“No point in even enjoying Christmas now,” added Hanley, who brought his 10-year-old and 8-year-old children to see the movie which he has now banned them from expressing a positive thought about.

“If they even dream of praising that bag of shite again, they’ll be grounded for 3 months,” explained the grown man, who predicts he may never get over this traumatic experience of going to see a film.

While Hanley’s opinion was echoed by other people of a similar age in his social media feed, the father-of-two’s hurt and upset was furthered when one person expressed the opinion that they thought the laser sword movie was actually ‘alright’.

“Fucking get over it, it was grand,” explained Hanley’s wife, Anna, who can expect a solicitor’s letter regarding divorce some time in the coming days.

About to go see this again. This time in 3D with those comfy reclinable seats.

Saying it lacked in visual style seems outrageous to me. I thought it was beautiful. At times it felt like a samurai movie.

The casino land, free the animals part was my least favorite but everything else I really loved. I was enthralled with the Rey/Kylo conversations. The opening space battle. The throne room. I don't give a shit this might be my favorite Star Wars movie.
