After watching that live performance and the context of dedicating it to the students, coupled with Ed drumming, the song rises a bit. The verses sound good live, but man, that chorus is a mess.

There’s no getting away from the mediocrity of the writing. Even if premium era Pearl Jam had laid this one down in the studio, it’s best case scenario would be as a b-side we all rank among the least revisitable b-sides.

the music and performance has grown on me a little bit, but McP is probably right. And unlike a song like Got Some, where the lyrics are there just to give Ed something to do with his voice, this song invites you to pay attention to them

The new one is okay, I think Mind You Manners is way better if we're comparing newer, short/punky PJ tunes. While it's great to hear Ed again this one sounds forced, where I thought he actually sounded pretty fresh with MYM. I definitely like the production of the new one though, way better than anything on LB. Hoping the rest of the album is better, excitement meter still high...

Might do better as just a track in the middle of an album than it does as a single tho.

Also I think the vocal performance on the studio take is fine. He shrieks and yelps like a scrapper. It’s just the extreme wordiness of the writing and the very tepid hooks that hurt the vocal performance.

It'll be one of the first "1,2,3 punch" opening tracks before a ballad.

the rest will be sentimental casio keyboard tracks written by BOB

except one, which is just an accidental voicemail left by stone while ordering thai food - it will be hailed by the jamily as genius, but then voted off immediately in the first round of PJ survivor march madness

Live performance was actually pretty good.

This one has grown on me honestly quite a bit. Yeah Eddie sounds strained at times but I don’t mind that. It makes it feel less over produced to me. Cameron sounds great on this one. It is like a Soundgarden drumbeat. It is immediate and aggressive. It feels real to me. I love the tempo especially, very sludgy. There is a weird cut before the outro that sounds like an edit to my ears. I do agree this is missing a nice Mike solo. In fact the song is so short I would love a minute or so solo towards the end of the track before the outro. Yeah it could be better but it could be a lot worse.
