i dont think any of the protests were to make cheeto take action on anything but it was to show people there are still people that care about democracy

I would usually say something sassy here but the large majority of these protests were peaceful. It’s a step in the right direction even if there was no clear goal

Well this is a long thread.

When I think about politics and "Progressives" vs. "Conservatives" I often am reminded of this section from T.S. Eliot:

They constantly try to escape
From the darkness outside and within
By dreaming of systems so perfect that no one will need to be good.
But the man that is will shadow
The man that pretends to be.


And then I think how much of this is about people scrambling for larger shares of money/fighting people off the large shares of money they've already grabbed? Maybe we should be thinking about getting people more access to actual avenues of independence like the ability to feed themselves and cloth themselves without buying stuff. Cram millions of people into dense concrete jungles and tell them the only tool for survival they'll get is a bank account and watch them tear each other apart is a grim way to build society.

The latest is a wave of wah wah wah dem’s asking for monetary donations to fight Trump’s latest transgression.

I know the Magats do it, too. Funny (I guess?) to see how prevalent and aggressive the panhandling via email is.

A grift would imply they ask you for money and then use it for legal bills or personal investments instead of putting it in their campaign fund. My understanding is that that’s exclusively a Trump thing.
