I reject the notion that one must be required to have a specific experience or background to write from that perspective. Both Springsteen and Ed can be very empathetic writers.

I'm a blue collar guy myself, and have always felt that Eddie understood & wrote well on these topics.

I'm sure Ed at one point had 30 bills unpaid.

Having empathy doesn't have anything to do with it. Ed I am fairly certain couldn't be more empathetic. That doesn't mean he knows what is like to work paycheck for 30 years while raising a family. He appears to think it is hard and bad. As does the boss. Ed said stripped and sold mom. Bruce stripped and sold the working man in many ways. That was all out of empathy.

Go, Animal, Blood etc Ed sing about being Ed are when he is at his best. He does well with Rush style lyrics as well. Big abstract storys GTF TremorChrist etc.

I've lived paycheck to paycheck while raising a family for the last 8 years. I've never felt offended by Ed's "blue collar/working man" lyrics.

Anyone working the night shift at a fucking gas station doesn't need empathy to understand the working man.

It's just a heavy handed execution in Unemployable. He is stronger in other places

Yeah I have absolutely never ever felt like Eddie was talking down to people who work for a living.

Apart from "Unemployable," and maybe "Sleight of Hand," where else does this theme appear in the PJ catalog? I'm struggling to think of examples.
