Some of the supporting and one-scene characters are among my favorite in PTA’s movies. Couldn’t care less about Dirk.

Do you even like film?
He likes individual films, not film as a catch-all term

I only watched the movie once and I hated it so much that I don't even understand this post.

Boogie Nights is really fun, well made and the cast is great. Also, Heather Graham and Julianne Moore are naked.

BUT its way too close to a lot of movies from the 90s, so i could ranking it maybe in number 4 or5 of PTA´s career.

I like Boogie Nights and have seen it many times, but I will say the last time I watched it, it left a bad taste in my mouth. PTA claims to have a lot of affection for porno chic but, if that's the case, I think it's strange that the movie winds up in such a stereotypically dark and negative and cruel place. And hearing people like Bob Chinn and Jamie Gillis speak about how offended they were by how the movie portrayed certain things made me like it even less.

It has been quite a while but I recall that being where the narrative should have wound up, there was nothing redeeming to that story regardless of the industry. I mean the whole scenario is within a land of lore but it simply is not a positive fantasy land in my mind.

I am sure a fresh viewing might be beneficial but don't think I can bring myself to watch, much less revisit, anything Wahlberg stars in.

Wahlberg is so unbelievably terrible in Boogie Nights.

He's done stuff since that I can watch but, Jesus, that performance is on the Mount Rushmore of awful acting.

But you know who gives an unreal, like, startlingly amazing performance? Sean Penn in OBAA.

Felt like he chewed some scenery in the church, but I thought it fit with him confronting reality and that Willa was a living reminder of his lust for a black woman as a white supremacist. Plus it totally messed up his membership application to be an elf for St Nick

Maybe ten years ago i would have think that he was a bit too much, but these days? these days he seems very grounded compared with a lot of real folks.
