That and the alt country stuff, for me.
Which songs do you think fall into that latter category?
Off the top of my head:

Thin Air
Around the Bend
Elderly Woman...
Off He Goes
maybe Thumbing My Way

There are others but those are the ones that readily come to mind. There are a lot of other PJ tracks that just have that kind of western twang built into them but aren't as much in this category- I'm thinking of songs like Nothingman, Immortality...

Anyway, suffice to say, "big building cartharsis" is definitely not my Pearl Jam lane.
I forget, Spenno, are you a Radiohead fan?
Not a diehard but I like them OK.

For some reason I thought you were big into them and I was gonna ask how you reconciled the catharsis of Radiohead with the catharsis of PJ. But I misremembered your level of fandom.

But also, if you have any thoughts on that compare/contrast, I'd be interested in hearing them. So feel free!
If it helps, I don't enjoy much of 90s Radiohead.

I like King of Limbs and Kid A the best, I think.

"Alt Country" (not my favorite descriptor but I get what you mean) Pearl Jam is also some of my favorite Pearl Jam.

There's still quite a bit of build/catharsis in that stuff though, especially Kid A.

I'm not gonna say you're wrong, but insofar as you're right, that's PJ's fault, not ours.

All or None is my #1 favorite and the rest of those are all ACES.

I get not liking the song. But it's hard to argue that it isn't "alt country" influenced.

Have you heard the Last of Us version? It's a totally different, tonally different, song.

I'm not convinced.

What about Speed of Sound? I like that one.
