Listen, I liked Shotgun Stories, I just was able to view Take Shelter objectively, and it just wasn't compelling. Why won't I like Mud? I definitely plan to see it.

I don't believe you about the spielbergian sentimentality. Shotgun stories and take shelter are just too good.

Just because you cried doesn't mean that a movie is overly sentimental. Sometimes it's just a good movie.

Finally saw "This Must Be The Place". Lovely film, much better than I expected.

I resent that it's named after a talking heeads song. I also resent the kids are alright for a similar reason. Also, Sean Penn looks dumb as hell. Is it actually worth a watch, or just better than expected (I expect absolute drech)?

Well, both the song and David Byrne are actually in the movie. I liked the film quite a bit-- good script, good cinematography, good performances (even if Sean Penn is a little annoying at first) and a really good soundtrack. The director's a talented guy.

Sounds like a step up from the kids are alright, which didn't even acknowledge that the who was a band, if i remember correctly. thanks to plat for pointing out that Tom Waits Big Time was on Netflix. I watched it and now there's a whole section of "Because you watched Big Time," most of which I didn't even know was there. I put on an Elvis Costello concert, the Jarmusch/Neil Young doc is on there, a whole new world is opened up to me. I tried some 2010 doc about David Byrne, but it started with him dancing with some choreographer and a bunch of dancers and I just couldn't take it.

I just read that the original music for the film was a collaboration between David Byrne and Will Oldham. I had no idea.

Well you get back to me after you see it. I thought it was very beautiful. In the same way I found the ending of Shotgun Stories to be beautiful.

I'm not saying that. And I find nothing wrong with some of Spielberg's sentimental moments. It was perhaps the plot in the final act. To some degree it might seem incredible. And it helped support that hopefulness.

I'm hoping to see Mud this week, probably Thursday. I will get back.

Speaking of Will Oldham, have you seen Old Joy? Good movie, same director as the great movie Wendy and Lucy.

Kelly Reichardt is great. Have you seen Meek's Cutoff?

Meek's Cutoff just didn't have the same punch as the other two did for me.
