I've been rooting against Walt for a while now. And I loved when Jesse said that he's not only smarter than Hank and Gomez but more importantly luckier, too. He's not this unbelievable criminal mastermind, though he has gotten far better at it and he has been very smart on many occasions. He's had plenty of very clumsy moments that he got lucky as hell on.

And Cranston is really an unbelievably good actor; I'm sad to see it coming to an end because he encompasses the character so well.

How can you possibly still be rooting for Walt?

I'm totally in the Hank & Jesse boat.

Fuck, I even like Skyler & Marie more than Walt at this point.
Because for all the terrible things he has done, the writers have done a great job at keeping him relatively likeable and relatable on a base level. I'd say this wasn't true for a big chunk of the first half of season 5, where he seemed almost totally consumed by hubris, but they appear to have reined in his ruthlessness for this second half of the season.
What's interesting to me is that this is really only symptomatic of his "retirement." I think his decisions in the next episode (if he has the opportunity to make any) are going to tell us a lot about who he really is at this point; if he's capable of mercy/redemption/etc. We haven't seen much soul-searching from him, that's for sure; and what would explain his less-than-horrible turn of character, if not just for diminished opportunities to be horrible?

If Hank hadn't been there, I'm thinking Jess would be dead as a doornail. Though, if the uncertainty principle is some kind of guiding philosophy for Walt's character, identifying where he's at is no indicator of where he's going/might've gone.

And that's why I'm surprised he's still alive. Outside his courage to shoot Gale, he's a cowardice, and should have been a victum long ago. It's not just luck though. Walt is right, he helped keep Jesse alive on multiple occasions.

Oh yeah...and it also would've made Walt's life easier on multiple occasions as well if he just had killed Jesse. Jesse's the conscience on the bad side. He just needs to stay in fight mode when he sees all these wrongs than the dead-eye mode that he tends to go into. And him snapping out of it is finally how Walt didn't automatically get away with it again.

Exactly. It's why he made the decision at first to reason with Jesse instead of killing him, after he hugged his own son by the hotel pool. I think he feels more of a father to Jesse than he does Walt Jr. Perhaps because Jesse has played such a center role in the most traumatic parts of his life.

And I've read reviewers say that Walt was crying while hiding behind the boulder because he was admitting defeat, but part of it I think had to do with seeing Jesse rat him out. Even though he still ordered the hit on him, I think it broke his heart.

The thing I found so sad about the last scene, in addition to how tense it was, was that as horrific and inhuman as Walt has been for seasons now, for the first time in as long as I can remember there was a line he was unwilling to cross in order to stay alive and/or not be caught. He'd been willing to order Gale's murder, poison Brock, even kill Jessie, but he was forced into a corner where he could kill Hank or be caught and he chose to surrender. And yet, since he had given the coordinates already, the choice he decided against (presumably) came through anyway.

Absolutely the betrayal was the cause of the tears. Walt was adamant Jesse's demise was not "rat patrol", a decision he clearly struggled with up to the last second. The failure to foresee it ties in with him falling for Hank's ruse, he was back to Walter White the vulnerable man who sacrificed for his family, in this case surrendering himself to not kill his brother-in-law and substitute son.

Just finished the last episode....MY FUCKING GOD. I need the next one now.

I hope hank comes out alive...my guessing is he is dead by now, specially after that phone call...and Walter flashforwards from the beginning of the season might have to do with him dealing with those bastards alone.

BUT; everyone knows he is Heisenberg in the future so...WTF give me the next episode.

I want BB to leak instead of Lightning Bolt. Fuck Lightning Bolt.

you may be onto something. the flash forwards to walt with hair are him hiding out from the nazis, then returning to save jesse, who's being forced to cook. big romantic kiss between the lead actors is the final shot.
