People often bring up Jimmy Iovine in these discussions but when was the last time he actually sat behind a mixing board and produced/engineered an album? People remember him fondly for his work with Bruce, Petty and U2... in the 80s.

His job is being a baseball cap wearing mogul now.

I said it ages ago but an old school Glyn Johns or Jimmy Iovine could be interesting. A nice warm live band in a room recording with minimal overdubs.
I like the Glyn Johns idea but he is getting pretty old. He'd be like 74-75 when PJ is back in the studio and I don't believe he has produced anything since Ashes and Fire for Ryan Adams. I could be wrong.

An album with Ethan Johns could be good.

The band will never work with Tchad Blake again. My understanding from a conversation I had a few years back with someone who acutally worked with Tchad Blake and the band Travis is he is not very fond of them after they didn't like how binaural came out and when they had O'Brien remix a few tracks, the relationship was over.

Who can blame him? The songs he mixed sound great. I know some people think his Insignifigance is anemic, but it has far greater depth and atmosphere than the album mix, and Brendan's mud takes a lot of the punch out of the chorus for me

Hell at this point just try it with Adam Kasper again if they just want to stick with people they know and keep everything so in-house like they tend to do

That sucks. I was in favor of another Tchad Blake PJ album, mostly out of curiosity, and I also think that his influence would push the band back into a diff direction.

PREDICTION: there Will be a celebration/meltdown on RM when next albums producer is announced.
