I ran 1.51 miles and I tried to run it fast.

How fast did you get?

I didn't try to go overly fast. My first mile was 8:08 and I walked around .05 of it. My total was around 12:30, but I walked a little on the next .50. I'm old.

Thinking about it, in my races i'd love to have my first and third mile be like the first above. My second mile would have to be like 9:45 though.

Fun post-race fact:

My training has decreased but my eating has remained the same.

I have gained 4 pounds since my half marathon last Saturday.

Did 2.5 with jello legs most of the time. At least I got out there when I was trying to talk myself out of it.

Went up the coast for the weekend - did 7.8km on Saturday. I thought going for a run along the coastline would be a nice change - I didn't factor in the onshore breeze and the smell of rotting shellfish. Was a hot day, and fortunately on the way back there was a kids splash-pad, so I made full use of that and then when I got back to the house stripped down and went for a swim in the ocean to cool off. Was a good day

First run in a while. 8.35km. Second half felt better than the first. Hopefully more to come.

PR 5k of 27:08, but I was sucking wind hard for a few minutes afterward.

I've run twice in the last 8 days for 7 miles total. Before that, it's been 15-20 mile weeks since at least as far back as September when I hurt my shoulder. Before that, it was non-stop since February 2021 freeze. I feel almost completely restored and fresh so I suppose my body needed a rest. More importantly though, my mind is just itching for weekly miles again. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and whatnot. I've heard people say before that rest is important to avoid mental burnout, but I've never had a chance to really experience it until now.

Taking one more day off to get back to my regular schedule, then planning the following cycle for at least a couple of months. Eyeing a September half in Plano after that. Then marathon training. Til then, I think I've written myself a schedule I can sustain a good base with:

Week 1: Tuesday, wednesday, thursday: short runs (3-5 miles), weekend long run: 7 miles
Week 2: Tuesday, wednesday, thursday: short runs (3-5 miles), weekend long run: 8 miles
Week 3: Tuesday, wednesday, thursday: short runs (3-5 miles), weekend long run: 9 miles
Week 4: Tuesday, wednesday, thursday: short runs (3-5 miles), weekend long run: 10 miles

Repeat however many months. Focus on speed and pace mid-week, focus on heart rate the rest of the time. Enjoy some trail runs, some short barefoot runs, and some no gps runs every now and then too.
