I thought I read that Headey had in her contract that she never had to be in the same scene with him? At least at the same time while filming?

I'd love to see some more breakdowns of how much this ep mirrors the pilot, too. There's just a ton of parallels. Like, are the eps the same length? Do the mirror scenes happen at roughly the same place a lot?

I'll wait for someone to break it all down for us. Best parts of the episode for sure. The crypts and Lyanna, Bran/Jaimie/, Arya and the marching army, etc.

so there were so many parallels. when the show opened with the kid running, my wife mentioned that this reminded her of the very first episode. the connection i made was with bran climbing the castle, similar to the kid climbing the tree. but it went beyond that:

* in episode 1, we had a the arrival of a king to winterfell, and here we have the arrival of a queen
* arya sneaking around people trying to get a glimpse of king robert in episode 1, and here we had the boy doing the same
* circling back with jon and arya and the emphasis on needle
* the crypts and the momentous conversations there, with season 1 having robert asking ned to be hand of the king, and here jon learning about his lineage, both of which are setting things in motion
* the crypts and the emphasis on lyanna stark
* the white walkers leaving the symbols
* the episodes ending with bran and jaime

i'm sure that there are plenty more

Not the episode that Game Of Thrones will be remembered for, but disagree that you could just have skipped it. There were scenes in this we have been waiting several seasons for. Arya/Jon reuniting, Jon riding a dragon and being told who his parents were, Tyrion and Sansa reuniting, Jamie returning to Winterfell, Sam being told about his family, Sam and Jon reuniting. The scenes that felt a little more wasted were those in King's Landing. It was all a bit rushed as well, so nothing lingered, Arya/Jon should have felt more important.

Finally the scenes with Thormund and Beric were great. Hopefully more action in the next episode.

Fully agree that Tyrion has been misused. Him and Arya have so often been the highlight for me, but both sort of faded into the background here.

unless i'm miss-remembering, but in one of the many inside the episode videos, either Weiss or Benioff mentioned that only Targaryen's can ride dragons. so while it may not be true in the books, in the show it seems to be a truth.

The Dany/Jon dragon sequence might be the worst scene in the entire series. Just awful, Star Wars prequels love story bad, writing and execution.

Oh come on, nothing in that scene was frolicking in the meadows discussing politics. That is one of the absolute worst things ever filmed. The GOT scene was corny sure, but nothing to the level of Attack of the Clones.
