Re: The 45th POTUS - Donald J. Trump
So, let’s say it is proven that there was collusion between the trump campaign and Russia. Does that invalidate the whole election? What actually would/ could happen?

I dont see how that's possible. The sudden constant references in right wing media to the "Clinton administration" and "President Clinton" are super weird though.wease wrote:So, let’s say it is proven that there was collusion between the trump campaign and Russia. Is John Kelly this insane, or is this a case of falling on your sword so the boss doesn't do something terrible because his legal woes are in the news?

Impeachment is the only option AFAIK.wease wrote:So, let’s say it is proven that there was collusion between the trump campaign and Russia. Does that invalidate the whole election? What actually would/ could happen?

Wouldn't impeachment require Trump himself to be convicted? Also, I thought I read that some level of collusion is actually legally allowed.Simple Torture wrote:Impeachment is the only option AFAIK.wease wrote:So, let’s say it is proven that there was collusion between the trump campaign and Russia. You can be impeached for anything, really; it's a political process, not a legal one (if that makes sense).Bi_3 wrote:Wouldn't impeachment require Trump himself to be convicted? Yeah, I'm not clear on this at all.Simple Torture wrote:You can be impeached for anything, really; it's a political process, not a legal one (if that makes sense).Bi_3 wrote:Wouldn't impeachment require Trump himself to be convicted? I listened to a podcast about two weeks ago with Cass R. Sunstein from Harvard Law who just wrote a book on the subject and he said it was actually pretty difficult and especially hard if you cannot prove the individual themselves engaged or order the 'high crimes' while in office with intent to harm the nation, otherwise the executive branch will always be at the mercy of the majority of legislative. Or something like that.

Also, impeaching doesn't necessarily mean having to leave office.

Yeah. The House impeaches with a simple majority vote. The Senate then holds the impeachment trial and requires a 2/3 vote to remove the president from office.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Also, impeaching doesn't necessarily mean having to leave office.

Yeah Trump could be impeached, removed, and then possibly indicted if he's not pardoned.

His Gallup approval was down to low 30s before yesterday's developments. I don't see how this gets anything other than a lot worse for him.

In terms of getting the truth, what's happening is very important, but I can't see there being any repercussions, at least when it comes to impeachment. For that to happen, a Republican-majority Congress would have to pull the trigger on impeachment, and that will never, ever happen.

True, and they could certainly retake the House. But I don't think even the rosiest prediction for Democrats would say they'd reach the threshold for impeachment in the Senate.

Kushner will be one of the last to fall if that's going to happen. Mueller seems to be playing a long game of getting enough indictments and information before Trump attempts to pull the plug. I think a Kushner indictment would make Trump lose his shit and fire Mueller immediately.

Also, you go for the periphery first and then close in towards the center.
