Mixed bag spoiler free review from CNN.com

Seems like there's a problem w/ the first 45 min setting up the plot and then too much "fan service" and corrections made from The Last Jedi. I liked TLJ!

Meh, we got two good movies out of this. It's more than we had a right to expect.

me neither. my best guess is that TLJ ends up being the best among the three when you look back 20 years from now. Similar to Empire how it was not popular at first but overtime separated itself from the pack.

As a casual Star Wars fan the consensus seems to be among hardcore fans that Empire Strikes Back is the only SW movie that is actually good.
That’s a lot of fucking t-shirts, figurines, and cosplay for one fucking movie.

Myself and many others said this all along. This is going to be the empire of the series. Hated. Then when given context and time after the final one, come to be loved.
Not that tfa or ROS have to be bad. They’re not they’re wonderful.
But let’s see.
I’m literally pacing 3 hours to go

One take that’s consensual across the board is we’re gonna be debating this one for years
Bring it.
And someone bring LV back

Consequence of sound had a good spoiler review that for me excited. It didn’t go into detail but did mention there is a case to be made that it actually makes the last Jedi even stronger.
Minneapolis city pages said it was awful.
Such is the world of entertainment and film.
Be careful to not let others opinions influence yours. I can’t wait.

Lol. Prominent words I see are “soulless” “convoluted” and “fan service”.
Oh boy

“But it doesn’t feel like it’s respecting the series’ past. It’s more like Abrams is obsessively hiding behind it,” from one review, is a pretty good summary of how JJ’s worst decisions in prior projects have felt to me, especially in movies like The Repetition of Khan.

JJ Abrams, while obviously talented in ways, feels more like a vehicle for entertainment, rather than someone with a true artistic vision of his own.

The strongest criticisms seem to be articulating how poorly made and messy it is, which seems to reveal how there was no clear vision or plan in place before they set out to make these 3 "fan fiction", money-grab movies. Also, many of them state how cheap and obvious the attempts at pleasing fans are, and how it's very difficult not to see right through these attempts, rendering them very ineffective.

I think it has more to do with them feeling they need to tie in every single every other movie in the franchise. I dont think it means they had no vision.
