I moved my vote to "love it". They got it right with Lightning Bolt.

Still really digging this song. I love the energy and really hope they capture it in the studio.

One thing I'm intrigued about is how they'll make the intro, and that Matt groove with all the toms when it all kicks in, different to the same things going on in Unthought Known. I'm looking forward to that.

don't hold your breath. there may be some subtle differences, maybe with what he does with the hihat, but i would think that it is what it is.

It's the very simple 1, 2, 3, 4 on the bass drum that has me wondering. He does that on several live songs, where the studio version had something more interesting. That intro is like a Matt live staple, which makes me wonder whether it's different on CD. Even if it isn't rhythmically, there's a chance of a little guitar texture, rather than just Ed going dadadadada boringly (which, again, he does on a bunch of live stuff).

But now I reckon we're gonna go in circles again, so that's all I'm saying on the subject.

i could be wrong, but i vaguely remember stone (i think it was stone), in a binaural-era interview talking about 'of the girl', and how the straight kick drum beat is something that none of their songs had.

Just listening to this again now. It's amazing what a few weeks away can do. I like it quite a bit more now. The surf guitar at 1:32-ish, the bridge (?) section which begins at 1:40, and the messy verse starting at 3:02, are all pleasing to my ears. I even like the 'until the lightning strike sets you free' part. I'm still worried about that bland intro and the chorus, but maybe the rest of the song could make up for it. Overall it might be their most The Who-sounding song to date.

i like how the song ratchets up its intensity in the final two minutes. I hope the studio version reproduces that, since it's the lack of that final push that really held back UK and especially ATW.

I also just noticed Eddie isn't actually playing the opening guitar part. It sounds like something he would have written.

Hey, you're right. I think Stone's playing the lower palm muting and Mike is playing the higher more melodic bit. I hope the difference between the parts really comes through in the studio. I've been fooled into thinking it was just Ed chugging away. "Fool me twice... can't get fooled again."

This feels to me like a 3-minute song stretched out to 5 minutes.

Well, in as much as the outro is 2 minutes long, that's exactly what it is.

I dont like it still, but its catchy as hell. In a bad kind of way too. Its like when you hear Nicky Minaj playing out of someones open car window and that shit plays inside your head for the rest of the day at work. LB has the same effect on me - I dont even need to hear it, someone mentioning it is enough, and I go: she comes on like a stone but she dont know aAAARGH!!1 get out of my head!!!

I've realised my life would be nothing without earworms. They've rescued me from the pit of despair. I'm not listening to much 'serious' music at the moment and I'm happy about it.

One of the WORSESTS examples is Got 2Let U by The Knife. Took me two full weeks to get rid of that one.

I think LB is probably the catchiest song they've written since Betterman. PJ songs generally are not that catchy. This one is infectious.
