I remember when that DVD came out, and they were playing clips from it on VH-1, I thought "Oh, man, that's not going to help anything." It seemed kind of unengaging at the time, I guess. Certainly for people who weren't FANS of the band.
Time has turned it into a fascinating no-frills document of a band at a genuinely defining moment: they're at the height of their sonic powers, they're dealing with intense emotional weight, they just made a record that both frustrated them and (at the time) was being treated by others as a huge misstep...it almost comes across like they're sort of showing up without a plan, walking onto the stage simpy because that's what they do, and then hoping that the fans will be the ones to carry them across for a change.
Songs like Long Road almost come across as standing on a stage, in front of thousands of people, and having a good, hard think. As a then-document of current events, it felt sort of lifeless....as time goes on and that period gets put into perspective, it looks more and more provocative.

There's something very tastily passive-aggressive about evenslow/McParadigm exchanges. I like it.

I've tried to transition from aggressive-aggressive to passive-aggressive.
theplatypus, you simpy have an eye for such things.

let me set the scene:
It was Sunday, April 09, 2006. The time was 2:09 pm. He had joined 9:53 pm the previous day. Obviously biding his time, waiting for that perfect moment to wade in. You only get one chance to make that first post, and Evenslow knew he was going to leave a mark. History demanded that he get this one right. He scrolled through the forums, looking for that perfect thread, waiting for that perfect moment.
Then he saw it. It was the Pearl Jam Survivor competition. Ten had just wrapped up. We were on to Vs. The thread was only on its second page. Here he could make an impact. Here there was a chance to really blow the board wide open. The post that would make people stand up and take notice. The kind of post that would make McParadigm acknowledge him as a worthy foe. A post so great that Strat, 7 years later, still remembered it like it was 2:09 pm today. Evenslow cracked his knuckles, leaned over the keyboard, and typed...
daughter
rats
And the rest, as they say, is history.

pearl jam survivor was one of the more convoluted ideas I've ever had for this board. Not pearl jam Olympics, but still.

Holy shit, I don't have even a wisp of memory for a Survivor thread. Must've been during one of my many fugue states.
Even Da Vinci had formative years, team.
Rats and Daughter. Hmmm. I don't know why I said that. I enjoy Rats. Was just sick of Daughter. Was almost certainly trying to be cool and unassuming. It clearly worked. Stip even printed it out and filed it away for later usage.
To get us all up to date, today I would knock off Glorified G and Leash. It's called wisdom.
