I actually thought the backing vocal was good. I might have to listen again. From experience I do not like Matt or Jeff backing vocals
I thought they were fine for a rock show.Kalevi wrote:I actually thought the backing vocal was good. I might have to listen again. From experience I do not like Matt or Jeff backing vocals
In the US it's currently #13 on Alternative, #12 on Rock and #10 on Adult Alternative. It's been steadily climbing on each format since it was released about a month ago.Oversize wrote:I haven't heard this on radio anywhere... Is it getting played?
Wreckage is climbing for me too. I liked it a lot the first week, but it just keeps getting better.sweeper wrote:In the US it's currently #13 on Alternative, #12 on Rock and #10 on Adult Alternative. This song has been in my head a lot the past few days, and I think it's often this moment you're citing that actually pops in there first.liebzz wrote:Before they hit the outro on this (the call and response like “combing through the wreckage”), there’s like a harder segue into that, like a harmony of the guitars all playing the one set of notes, and that to me is a snapshot of all that is right with both Pearl Jam and classic rock cathartically placed in that one moment - a summary of all classic rock distilled into a few intense notes.
Yes 100%, I haven't been able to articulate the vibe I get from this part of the song (when the guitars sweep back in full force) before the perfect outro. I can't help but jolt my head forward in unison every time I hear it. Pearl Jam rediscovered their killer bridge/killer outro mojo on this entire record.liebzz wrote:Before they hit the outro on this (the call and response like “combing through the wreckage”), there’s like a harder segue into that, like a harmony of the guitars all playing the one set of notes, and that to me is a snapshot of all that is right with both Pearl Jam and classic rock cathartically placed in that one moment - a summary of all classic rock distilled into a few intense notes.
Yep, that moment and beyond sends this song into the stratosphere. I feel the same about the bridge in Corduroy.liebzz wrote:Before they hit the outro on this (the call and response like “combing through the wreckage”), there’s like a harder segue into that, like a harmony of the guitars all playing the one set of notes, and that to me is a snapshot of all that is right with both Pearl Jam and classic rock cathartically placed in that one moment - a summary of all classic rock distilled into a few intense notes.
Definitely a highlight of the record and one that would not have happened with the band writing and sending demos from afar. Them in a room together captured the tension and release of that moment. So good.
