Flubbing lyrics doesn't really affect how the vocals sound, but they do have a lot to do with the overall appreciation of the song. Since I know the song, I don't care if he repeats the same verses second time around as he did in Wrigley. If you hadn't heard the studio, as we hadn't then, it really didn't affect the appreciation of the song even.
One of his most iconic (maybe the most) performances was flubbed.
Black/unplugged.
People always mention this and I never hear it, what does he mess up?
Neither do I.
Instead of "beneath the clouds"... He sings the "cradle broken glass" part

He sings the wrong lyrics in the first chorus. He sings "how quick the sun can drop away" instead of "I know she gave me all..."

Not the type of flub we've become accustomed to in the present day ("Remember back the early days, when...awwww, shit....what used to be a reservoir has...aw FUCK ME, MAN!"), but still there.

Normally I'm a Fallon fan but yeah he was off during this interview. Way too much talking. He treated Ed like Conan treats guests that have nothing to day. Good job of improvising by Ed when he ripped the cover off of Fallon's album and put it in the Lightning Bolt gatefold.

I guess i don't always watch his interviews, we have just kept his show set up on the dvr since pj was on in 2011 usually to see what music he has on, but he was definitely terrible this whole week

That was pretty funny, and when jimmy showed him the grammy, i thought ed was gonna say something like " you obviously don't know my feelings on those"

I do like how excited he gets, but he needs to pay more attention to what the guest is saying so he isn't being silly when they are trying to be serious

Severed Hand from SNL '06 was great. A nice surprise too since that was a solid month before the album came out and was a song nobody had heard yet (it also kicks ass which always helps).

My favs will always be Letterman 96 and 2000. I'm biased since those are the salad days of my fandom and seeing PJ on TV back then was like seeing Halley's Comet.

Nothing makes for engaging late night TV, or a completely coherent Ed, quite like serious political discussion.

Doesn't Jimmy Fallon realize this?!?

Fuck, the VH1 Rock Honors performances are two of the greatest TV performances they've ever done. The band absolutely killed it, and you can tell by Ed's smile after LROM that he knew it too.

They're the best TV appearances along with Rearviewmirror from SNL in '94, Hail Hail in '96, and Grievance in '99.

I have a soft spot for Severed Hand on SNL in '06 although I can't find that ANYWHERE online to watch.

When I see the mic they used I wondered if it was being recorded for the purpose of releasing it somewhere. It would make a great Xmas single IMO.
