Hey, guys. Based on my absence from this thread for the past 3-4 months, you can probably guess that I've been bad. I got married in December, and during the run-up to and wind-down from the wedding, fitness took a backseat. But fear not! I got a membership to the Y and did an hour or treadmill jogging/running today--getting back in the swing of things is going to be tough, but I'm committed!

Congrats and good luck, man.

21 miles in the desert. Felt good until about 4 miles to go, then totally cratered. Only brought one GU, which was obviously a mistake. Luckily I switched to the Camelbak after initially deciding two handhelds would be enough. 80+ degrees at the end. Not great, but it should serve me well. 15 tomorrow.

Legs were fucking toast this morning. I kinda hobbled along for 10 miles.

Weekend sucked. I have a lot of work to do if I want a top 10 in next race.

Ran Tuesday through Thursday this week. Work has been busy as fuck and I really struggled to get out the door at night. I'd like to get into the 80 miles a week range, so I'm gonna start running everyday for the next 2 months. Gonna run up to the TV Towers at South Mountain on Sunday with a couple of friends. I actually haven't run the route in a few months, so it'll be fun to see how I stack up to my friends who run it on a weekly basis.

I have been incrementally been running throughout this winter. When I started at the beginning of the new year, I was at my heaviest (178 - I'm only 5'9") and couldn't get to half an hour without tremendous IT band pain. Today I ran a half marathon distance. Took me an hour and 51 minutes, but whatever. It's progress. I am also down to 166. I am hoping to see 155 by June. Haven't been there in at least a dozen years. Running is awesome!

Run up to the TV Towers and back on Saturday that went better than expected. We decided to go up together, then make it a free-for-all on the way down. Had about a 2 minute lead by the half-way point, then dropped the hammer and finished over 6 minutes ahead of the other of two. Fairly surprised by this as uphill is usually my strength. I was pretty pissed about losing in my last group run. 61 up. 46 down.

10 in 76 minutes

Quads were killing me this morning. Hit the canal at about 6 a.m. Gusty and cool. Mellow pace.

Definitely is.

Running for transport started wearing out its welcome last week, six+ miles outside a day in the New England weather hasn't been a joy. Then Friday night I just took off exiting the train and had one of my best runs of the year. Saturday was miserable with the weather and I can't say that I haven't fallen as of this morning. Ups and downs I suppose but I am looking forward to my next half in April. I think I've actually become a more technical runner handling the elements so I'm definitely going to look toward some trail races this year.

After a couple of promising days at the gym, I've picked a 5K on April 11th to train towards.

Picked up a head cold late Sunday. Skipped Monday, but did 10 last night and gonna hit the indoor track for 2 hours tonight. Legs feel strong, but I'm gonna have to start hitting the hills soon.

I can do 5k runs around 28mins pretty consistently now but I'm not improving much. Should I try to do longer runs in that pace or try to go faster?

Depends on what you want. Going faster is harder than going longer. You'll be able to bump up to a 10K without much problem, but getting faster takes some dedication. Hills and speed work take more out of you than just extending your runs.

I would set a goal for yourself at 5K, then move to a 10K once you hit that goal.

15 miles in 1:51. Solid run in what felt like hurricane force winds.

Thanks, I will try that. I don't really want to go with very long distances but 10K should be good. Let's see if I'm able to do 5k in 25 minutes.

Another 15 on Sunday and an hour of hills this morning on the treadmill. Left achilles is shaky, a sure sign that I've bumped up mileage too quickly. But I feel solid otherwise. Sticking to a Tues.-Thurs., Sat. & Sun. schedule. Dropped 5 pounds in the last week or so.

Entrant list for my race is not exactly as stacked as I thought it would be. I had kinda given up on a top ten finish based on the entrants from the last few years, but I'm feeling better about my chances now.

Solid week so far. 10 in 73 on Tuesday and 10 in 72 yesterday. Another 10 tonight. Achilles is better and my legs feel strong. Another 15/15 weekend, then I'll bump it up to 20/15 the following weekend.
