on my second listen through this thing. Made it to normal people before I got to work. Still love Reflektor. Can't get into the other stuff. Parts of normal people remind me of the 'out of my mind' improv/partial song

Good list. Give me "Orpheus" over "Porno" and I could live with it.

Man like 6 spins in this album and I still don't understand it. I should love it, and probably will. It's almost like there's too much going on in every god damn song.

Every single AF album has leapt out at me immediately. They're the band that snapped me out of my blind hatred and subsequent dismissal of indie music as being little more than a fashion statement. I owe a lot to them for that.

second listen....its good. Its maybe too long, but there are some good, interesting things here.

My favs are Reflektor, Porno and Here comes the night time 2.

Porno is tits.

This album is like a christmas tree that is about to collapse under the weight of all the ornaments decorating it. Some songs are potentially quite good but are buried underneath the excess, and other songs are basically platforms for the excess with little underneath them. I am not finding much in many of these songs to really grasp onto--they seem like exercises in self-indulgence, without being concerned about being moving, or engaging. And the songs I want to like have a few too many moments that distract me just as I'm starting to get drawn in.

I still really like Refklektor, which is the most successful fusion of excess and strong songwriting. I really want to like Hey Orpheus (i forget the actual title of that one), and there are a lot of really great parts to it, but damn if that HEY ORPHEUS part just makes me actually want to cringe. For real. And afterlife is mostly pretty decent.

I probably like this the least of their 4 records. I want to give this one more try, though

You still like Pearl Jam, thus I can't take anything you say seriously. Sorry. I wish it were different.

Sorry stip, but the fact that you take PJ's post-2000 output seriously makes it hard for me to give your opinion too much weight.

This is the best Arcade Fire album yet.

Aw. That's just unnecessary.

Still haven't listened to this. I like "Reflektor", the single, a whole lot. The internet's abuzz with debate about the album, though, which is usually a good sign.

So this review criticises the album for being too hipster and show-offy, but also "unstylish", and written by people with boring sex lives? It sounds like this writer might have double standards.

Looks like he'd be largely appeased just by telling him this is not rock-and-roll. Which it isn't.
