Further update from Hollywood Reporter. Says they were fired for doing more improv on set while Kasdans wanted them to stick to the script.

While having amazing potential, this movie will be the second lowest* point of the Star Wars franchise.

*The Christmas Special being marginally lower

A MESSAGE FROM LUCASFILM REGARDING THE UNTITLED HAN SOLO FILM
The untitled Han Solo film will move forward with a directorial change.

“Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.

“Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew,” stated Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

The untitled Han Solo film remains scheduled for a May 2018 release.

Rumours of Ron Howard taking over from here. "Saving Private Solo" back on track.

This is kinda bonkers. I wonder if the film gets pushed back to December of next year. I wonder how much heavy lifting the new director will have to do. I know there's still three weeks left. So maybe this is just a simple finish + reshoot + polish kind of situation.

It's fascinating to me that Disney is having so much trouble with the stand-alone anthology films. They seem to be on top of the main saga.

They're having trouble because they're hiring directors with personality and they don't actually want personality

It sure is starting to feel that way, yeah. But then there's Rian Johnson. So...

Also, looks like Joe Johnson is in the running to take over the Han film.

I think it makes all the sense in the world to give it Kasdan. But I'm reading that there may be DGA issues with that.

This is a pretty valid point, LV. I didn't have high hopes for this Han film to begin with, but now... sheesh.

Following the shocking news last night that Lucasfilm and directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller have parted ways due to cited “creative differences” on the upcoming Star Wars Story, it now looks like production could be delayed until July despite being several weeks from completion, at least for the movie’s extras.

An email from a casting agency for extras has allegedly leaked on Reddit confirming a number of details with the new shoot. The email can be seen in full below:

"Hi

Following last night’s late release on RED CUP, we have been in discussion with Production to find out the situation with your remaining booked dates.

Unfortunately, the releases this week have been the result of a large schedule upheaval. All the dates you have previously been booked for, have now been cancelled and you are hereby released from them.

We can only apologise for this huge change, as we know it will impact all of you in different ways. It is a decision that has been made by Production, we at Key Casting have aimed to do our best by our artists by informing you ASAP.

Production have now stated that your scenes are due to be resumed MONDAY 10TH JULY, AND WILL SHOOT FOR THREE WEEKS.

We have been asked to block book you from Mon 10 – Sun 30 July, including weekends. The team have stated that some of these days will be dropped but at this point they would love you to be free for as much of this time as possible.

We are aware some of you will not be able to commit to all dates in this time period, or may have holidays booked. That is absolutely fine. Again, Production would love you to be as fully available as possible for these new dates, but they will understand if that’s not the case.

You should please now follow the respond link below to let us know if you are available for rescheduled filming Mon 10 – Sun 30 July, and warn us of any unavailable dates so we can inform Production.
"

For those struggling to understand the way this message has been worded – it basically implies that Key Casting, an agency known to cast Background Artists (also known as “Extras”) in large films such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, has informed some of the cast that due to the directorial change announced last night, that the dates of production have been delayed. Shooting will now commence on Monday the 10th of July and will finish three weeks later on Sunday the 30th.

Want to direct a stand alone movie in our Star Wars universe? We will tell you what to shoot, how to shoot it, how long you have to do it, and who will be in it. Oh and we will bring in another directer after you're done to polish it off.

Still down?

It's really no wonder why so many great directors are losing interest in film making. This blockbuster/studio system is so cramping.

Or it could be that they were just doing a horrible job and as the finished product became more clear, they had to go.

I dont know. Haven't all the other directors had wonderful things to say? The re-shoot drama of Rogue ONe turned out to be not very dramatic at all and Gareth was in on it.

I trust the judgment of Lord & Miller waaaaaaay more than I trust the judgment of studio executives.

And if you're going to attach yourself to one of these major studio tent poles you have to understand that your vision isn't as important as the brand. Everyone is saying all the right things right now in terms of parting ways. My hope is that it really is amicable and true "creative differences" and nothing more dramatic. But whatever the case, I'm back to being pretty uninterested in this movie. I still love some of the casting decisions. But, yeah, this is pretty low on my list.

Well, sure. You favor directors. That makes all the sense in the world. To you, film is and should remain a director's medium.
