Amid a series of dubious claims, blatant falsehoods, war mongering statements, and vague promises which appear to involve massive changes to veteran care quality, Trump delivers typical politician praise of military.

CNN Headline: "Trump: military families are a treasure"

Unless they're Gold Star families.

Curious if anyone thinks that, like most presidents, the job will change Trump in some way, for better or worse? I think about the moments a president has that none of us ever see, like meeting with the families of fallen soldiers. I can't imagine him showing much real empathy in those situations, but perhaps it's moments like that which lend the weight to the presidency we often hear about.

Maybe in little ways, but I doubt it. Thinking about past presidents, their governing styles were really not that far removed from the image the public understood. Obama, barring his skills as an orator, was seen as measured almost to a fault, methodical, fairly even-keeled, and everything we've seen in the past eight years seems to support that style. I think that's fairly true for previous presidents also, by and large.

Trump is what he is, and he's been this way as long as he's been around. I think it'd be a bad idea for someone to vote for him hoping that he would suddenly do an about face.

Study: Clinton-Trump coverage was a feast of false equivalency
Clinton’s controversies got more attention than Trump’s (19 percent versus 15 percent) and were more focused. Trump wallowed in a cascade of separate controversies. Clinton’s badgering had a laser-like focus. She was alleged to be scandal-prone. Clinton’s alleged scandals accounted for 16 percent of her coverage—four times the amount of press attention paid to Trump’s treatment of women and sixteen times the amount of news coverage given to Clinton’s most heavily covered policy position.

There wasn’t much in Clinton’s general election news coverage that worked in her favor….Stories about her personal traits portrayed her as overly cautious and guarded and ran 3-to-1 negative. News reports on her policy positions trended negative by a ratio of 4-to-1. Everything from her position on health care to her position on trade was criticized, often in the form of an attack by Trump or another opponent. Her record of public service, which conceivably should have been a source of positive press, turned out differently. News reports on that topic were 62 percent negative to 38 percent positive, with Trump having a larger voice than she did in defining the meaning of her career. He was widely quoted as saying, “She’s been there 30 years and has nothing to show for it.”

Fucking hell, Trump has selected Scott Pruitt (OK Attorney General and big fan of fossil fuels) to head the EPA.

Major Trump Foundation donor and steroid ring conspirator Linda McMahon, of an organization that went out of its way to obliterate any small business competitors?

Mah gawd! All hell has broken loose!

The local SBA chapter has been virtually useless for me. Two hour-long meetings have yielded nothing of import. The expertise they offer is delivered by semi-retirees. I filled out a long form about my business goals, and they paired me with some semiconductor magnate the first time, and a medical device CEO the second time. Anything would be better than that.

The fact that there's a non-zero chance I get to see a sitting US president at WrestleMania next year is mind-blowing.
