Thanks for finding the non-spoiler reviews, Dime.
I'm SO excited to see this tomorrow. I've never even been a big Star Wars guy. I liked the originals, hated the prequels, but that was that. My girlfriend adores the franchise, and she even likes the prequels somewhat (although she finds it hard to say anything nice about Attack of the Clones). I don't know if its her excitement rubbing off on me, or if its the hype in general...but I feel like a kid again.
I feel the same as I felt walking in to see Jurassic Park in 1993 when I was 7

No real explanation of General Snoke or how he came to be supreme commander or where his force capability/role as master comes from, and further why the Resistance, who we thought took over the galaxy for the good, still seem to be a ragged under equipped band in hiding? These questions about him and his motivations will no doubt be anwered but i feel that element could have been fleshed out just a little more.
3PO is as annoying as ever..'nuff said, but hes used to remind the audience of plot so far and whats next in an either hit or miss sense, i cant decide if its annoying or not..but it's done clumsily.
Captain Phasma..why set up such a potentially cool and dangerous character only to disable and disempower it so easily? hopefully they find a way back for her
These were hugely obvious things to me. The whole no explanation of Snoke/Ren's history at all was a little annoying.
Captain Phasma, yeah, uh, why was she in this movie?
And as I said in another thread, there were two characters in particular that felt "forced" (haha, get it, forced) into the movie. C3PO was one of them. The other was Luke, for obvious reasons.
Still good movie, but I agree with you on a lot of your points, dime.

Let's not do the Luke thing..no other way it was gonna play out or be handled than how they did, if you think about it.
3PO, i'm not sure forced is the word i'd use, they just dropped the ball with what they intended to use him for, but even writing this I can see i'm being knitpicky..it's of no matter to the overall.
The lack of even a smidgen of backstory about the lay of the land(galactically speaking) politically is annoying, but i suppose even that smidgen would have been too much like the prequels so it's left out. probably for the best now that i think about it again.

With Luke it was just so obvious from early on that we weren't going to see him until the very end. So I kept waiting and waiting.
For 3PO, maybe forced is the wrong word, but his role could have really been anyone. I was hoping that if they were including him in these movies, he would have a little more significance, either in the plot or in letting us know what had been going on for the past 30 years.

No probs..
be excited..as one of the reviews said, this is a Star Wars movie people who don't like SW should see..they will like it afterwards.
He's managed again as with Star Trek, to make it accessible to non fans and everyone, by making ita huge rollicking funfilled spectacle..
Can't see why you won't love it

Well it would have jarred a bit given the only service he gave in the previous was to be a comedic/irritant foil to the cast and sideman for R2..
PS..does he introduce himself as Steve PO? i didnt hear that or his bit about the red arm..

I don't remember anything being said about the red arm.
What I'm worried about is with a different director for the next one, we may not get some of the backstory we are left hoping for after this one.

another positive..
the best Lightsaber fights in the entire series?
i think so..they're raw and powerful and none of that choreographed feel that even the OT had here and there..
they actually hurt and cause injury and you can feel how powerful but lethal they are.
job well done.

As Stip pointed out in the other thread, the next guy has a lotta room to play with...Everythings been set up and we might get some filling out of all the story/questions/spaces in it..
lets hope.

Might have been too hard on Ren. I'll wait until i see it again before i really decide. Don't remember seeing him getting off the planet, but presuming he does, there's a lot of fertile ground there for his presumptive showdown with Luke in the next one, or one after? Will he redeem himself? Will he kill Luke?

Appreciate the spoiler-free links Dime but I'm going to hold off on reading anything until after 10pm EST tomorrow when I get out of that theatre.
For each of the next 5 years we will have a new Star Wars movie to watch, some will be good and I'm sure others won't be, but only with this one will we have that sense of pure anticipation as we reconnect with beloved characters that we haven't seen in over 30 years.
